I'M REALLY SORRY,BUT YOU TUTOR IS A " bizarre persona".

I suppose that really is the whole point of this thread ... what absolutely crap advice is this so called tutor giving out? Because the tutor is incapable of doing nails with a brush she is influencing and turning out a whole slew of potential drillers!

Have you ever seen one new client who has not recoiled at the sight of a drill in a nail tech's hands??

Is there anyone at college who teaches nail SKILLs anymore?

I know quite a few College Lecturers who are excellent at nails and give out factual information and turn out some excellent Nail Technicians.
It is easy to generalise, that all Colleges don't care about what they tell the students and their curriculum is set back in the dark ages, but that is not always the case.

As regards use of an E-file I have never used one in 11 years of doing nails, and believe me I can do an infill and a rebalance no problem ;).
I am amazed any Educator would have said such a thing, but maybe she just wanted you to book up for some Training in use of an E-file.

Either way Angelnailz you seem to have a great attitude, and are already improving your application, your maintenance treatments will surely get easier and quicker from now on.
Welcome to the site....and chage your status, because it ain't true lol!!!

Thanks for your words of encouragement! :) So nice to hear

I think to be fair my tutor runs her own salon and i tend to think she just couldnt live without her drill/efile as she had said things like 'once you start service with the drill it will be so easy you will never go back to hand filing' i think it`s just her OWN personal choice and she seems to think everyone else would be of the same opinion! She has done my nails and she seems very skilled - once she applied the product there didnt seem much need to efile but she did and she also used it to cut out a deeper smile line in the tip before application which took 2 seconds! There is also a drill course which costs money which she does so maybe theres an extra reason for conversion there......x

I love my e-file. I was trained on hand filing and e-file technique - so I am confident both ways. I don't always use my e-file - depends on the job at hand! With the Popits system - e-files are not needed at all. I tend to use my e-file when doing a french fill. I find it easier to "cut" a new smile line and take down the bulk.

I guess I never need one because I never 'cut' a new smile line for a French rebalance. I just thin a bit and add a new smile. Quick quick quick!

Whilst I am sure that there are many wonderful lecturers out there, mine wasn't one of them :irked:

Don't get me wrong, she was a wonderful person, warm and kind - but totally useless with nails. She actually told us that she couldn't do them but there wasn't anyone else available to teach us!

I actually think that, that hopeless 'start' or taster, if you like, was what pushed me on to learn more. I knew there was more to 'doing nails' than what I had been shown - but just think how many 'techs' out there think that's it and continue to plod along with under-developed (or totally non-existent!) skills

Another problem with colleges is that they're very set in their ways and don't tend to keep up with industry, which is a shame.

If i was you hun i would complain about your tutor...was it at college or as an independant course??
I just cannot get over the fact that she told you that if you didnt have an e file then not to offer infills....and i am presuming re balance's......IF she even went through that???!!!
What exactly are you supposed to do.....new sets everytime along side a soak off??.....i am pretty sure most clients would see this as an absolute rip off as they will be paying or a full set each time....this is NOT good education!!
I just want to add though that i do not think there is anything wrong with e files....in the right hands (as in trained) of course...even though i do not use one myself. For those that i know that do use them i think they have found them a god send for their RSI.....i am sure there are many other good reasons for using them

If one learned to make nails properly with a brush .. then no one would suffer from RSI in the first place; at least they wouldn't get it from filing.

Hi

I did an NSI course at an NSI appointed salon over a three month period costing £450. Although the course included infills it did not include rebalance which i had to suss out myself. I know she does rebalancing in amongst her service but when she used the term 'cutting out a new smile line' it`s pretty clear it`s not going to be done by hand.
