Hi

I got an interview on Saturday for a trainee hairdresser position. Not sure if it is an apprentice type job or not. I am currently full time at college doing my level 2 in Hairdressing. Just not sure what they will ask me or what questions I should be asking them. Any advice. I am older too, turning 30 next year which they are aware of. Just would work out perfectly if I got it. Any advice on what questions to ask?

The hairdressing industry is a very sneaky one!
You must ask plenty of questions at the interview so you know exactly where you stand, otherwise, you'll find yourself contracted by a 3 mile radius for a year and wanting to leave after 2 months! i'm 19 and have already worked in 3 differents salons, all of which took the piss...which is why i'm now freelance ;)
You must understand exactly what they're wanting you there for, as, as far as they could be concerned, you're there just as cheap or even free help!
just make a list of things you are expecting before you go because if you're not happy there to start, you'll never be happy! and hair contracts can get you in a lot of trouble, even if you're not qualified as you'll still be able to do clients.

Hope that was some sort of help to you, if you have any other questions, id be happy to help :)

Obviously ask questions regarding hours, duties, further training opportunity etc. Its great you want to work there and if the position would suit you then be as positive as you can during interview. Obviously the previous postee has had negative experiences BUT don't let that put you off, nothing can compare to the experience you gain from working with others and seeing 'how it all works' in a real setting.
If they are interested in you at 30 then I would have thought they have something more serious in mind than just coffee duty and sweeping as the could employ a 16 yr old for that and pay lower wages. All the best.
