I know you dont HAVE to do it but is it worth doing? My boss thinks otherwise and said it has little to do with hairdressing, and i'm wondering if its worth an extra year (i think) in college. I start in september and I think i'm starting on level 2.

My personal opinion is yes it's defo worth doing but your boss is right. It is just a piece of paper and some amazing stylists are only level 2 qualified. It's about your salon I think. I did mine anyway so it looks good on my CV but you learn the most in salons. That's my opinion! Good luck!! Xxx

I am going to do an nvq 3 because I want to offer derma roller therapy as well as no needle mesotherapy. It is very hard to get a company that is willing to train you and then get insurance without an nvq 3. I guess it depends on what your ambitions are tho.

I think the NVQ structure is quite different between hair and beauty. IMHO Level 3 beauty is essential to progress in many routes - and for the industry to take you seriously. However, my hairdressing colleagues consider Level 3 hair to be much more 'management centred' - not so much skills based.

Call me old fashioned - but quals still look good on a C.V. ....

I think level 3 must have changed over the years because we learnt nothing managment related and it was purely hairdressing.

Our course focused mainly on colour correction and pin ups.

I think itls definatly worth doing and most employers do like you to have a level 3, and my tutor last year said that level 3 may become compulsary. Hths x

My level 3 was colour correction, advanced cutting techniques,put-ups and advanced perming.
I think it's definitely needed if you want to progress xx

Imo any qualification is worth doing.........it can only be a beneficial to your career x

I would definatly go for it. I wish i had got the chance to do it before turning 25 at the reduced fee. Will have to pay full whack for it now :irked:

A lot of salons in my area request level 3 training on job applications now.
