ive done a basic makeup course with london school of beauty and makeup and am still practising, did it more as a hobby than anything and love making up family and friends but im now thinking about taking their bridal makeup course which means a heavy investment in a professional kit - just wondered how many bookings a bridal makeup artist can expect to get, im assuming more busy in the summer does it quiten right down in winter or few odd bookings, also what other makeup services work - thought about teen makeovers/lessons also proms etc and approx how long did it take you to get established - also which other services if any do you offer?

Hi, one of our Couture team will have done 55 weddings by the end of this year. Plus work on pampers, lessons, party makeup, christening, 18th, 21st, prom and general events.

The makeup business is growing like never before.

Why do you need a heavy investment?

Companies like Artdeco have no minimum orders so you can buy products in ones if you want. Build a kit as you go from 1600 products.

Professional high end companies like Artdeco offer specialist makeup teaching for Bridal, Fashion, photographic and because we make our money from selling products the training is cross subsidised to be very cost effective.

The teachers are always members of the Artdeco Couture team which means they actually work in TV, Film editorial, bridal world on a daily basis.:)

Phone Ashleigh or Emma for a free, no obligation makeup test and demonstration to makeup your own mind up. 0151 421 1234 or [email protected]

Hi TaniaB, I personally don't think you need to invest in another make up course specifically for brides. The best way forward is experience, the more make overs you do the easier it becomes. After I did my college course (Level 2) I became a vie at home consultant and did approx 1 party a week and soon became very confident in doing the make up. Vie at home also give you loads of bridal make up advice and there starter kit (costs about £100) gives you everything you need to do a make over at one of their parties. The best bit is you have a target audience of ladies all watching you do the make over and if they like what they see they will recommend you. I have picked up loads of Bridal makeup appointments from the parties I did. (I don't do Vie anymore because my beauty business has taken off but it opened up so many avenues to promote my beauty services)I don't really think you can specially train for 'Brides' either, I take each person individually and listen to what they want for their day. Not everyone wants the natural look. Most want and need staying power and obviously you need to apply it so you they don't looked washed out in the photos but I think it is very individual!! I would say that I am a total fan of mineral foundation as you can build up the level of coverage you need very easily and all my brides say they love how lightweight it feels, its also great for them to purchase their own pot to lighly dust over before the evening do to without having to redo the whole of the makeup (as you know that trying to touch up liquid foundation several hours later never really works as it goes patchy and I haven't found one so say 'longlasting' foundation that really truely still looks great at 8pm in the evening as it did when you put it on in the morning. Hope this helps , Sam x

hi artdecouture, thank you for taking the time to reply
have been looking at artdeco makeup, its really reasonable for a professional brand and very impressed with the celebrity following, didnt know they did training courses though, i will have to investigate

hi beau chic, thank you for taking the time to reply
can i ask how many bridal makeup bookings you get a month? and do you offer any other types of makeup services?
i really need to add more 'professional' makeup to my kit as think brides may be put off with what currently have - handful of mac and bobbi brown and mostly pre-mixed palettes from coastal scents
really need to get more lipsticks can you recommend any makes, was thinking MAC or clinique
also love the sound of mineral makeup although believe it or not this wasnt covered on our training - can you mix mineral and regular makeup - ie. mineral base and regular makeup or regular makeup and mineral blusher and eyeshadows ?

Hi TaniaB, I posted you a long reply but not sure where i sent it!! really annoyed (I am not very good with technology!!!) So if you want to email me I will give you my number and I will be happy to chat to you on the phone. It was too much to type all again , sorry!!! email is [email protected] x x

I have done around 25 weddings this year. It does depend on your area I suppose but I live in the highlands and my busiest time for bridal is mid April til mid October which this year was 26 Saturdays which in my area is the most popular day. I have had weddings every Saturday except 4 (2 of which I had booked a holiday so could have had bookings on them) and have had a couple of midweek weddings too.
Personally for me and my area bridal make up would not be enough to live off but it depends on your area.
Hope this helps any questions just ask xxx

Do u think charging £45 i too low for bridal make?

that is what im planning to charge
x

£45 on the day or for trial too? Again it depends on your area, check out other prices. I'm £50 for trial and make up but when I worked in Newcastle I was £75 so it depends on area and competition, there are girls here do it for as little as £15 so no way I'd get away with charging £75 here xxx

thanks every one been really helpful
thanks very much also beau chic have pm'd you email, if you send your number will give you a call whens best?
just wondered what people charged on average, also do the bridesmaids usually book too?
do any of you offer other treatments also to brides or just makeup and do you all work within your local area or travel further afield?
finally what other makeup services do you offer ? proms, parties, lessons .. and do these actually get booked up
really thinking applying for jobs in makeup counter also but worry my age may go against me suppose they want pretty glamorous young things with retail experience, lol

Hiya, I have only bin going for 2 years now and by the end of year i will have done about 100 weddings just this year. I do do hair and makeup. I no alot of people who havent been as successful and it hasnt bin easy. But i believe that if the hard work is put in then u will do well. you need to be clever with marketing and website. give people a reason to pick u for there wedding over the person that may live closer to them. Also i think its important to always remember how different it is doing friends and family to a stressed out bridezilla who has changed her mind 5 times with what she wants on the biggest day of her life. I have had many sleepless nights!

Also I charge £50 - 60 for trial and £70 - 80 on the day for bride depending on wether they want any falsies or airbrush m-up. ( i do cover Berkshire surrey and london)
