I love looking after my hands and nails, but have becoming increasingly frustrated at my home manicures usually lasting only a day or less without chipping. I'd been thinking about trying Shellac for a while, particularly as I'm off to Spain for two weeks next month so I took the plunge. I went to a local salon that has been trading for years and had a great reputation(first nail salon visit ever). First off, the Shellac looked great, stayed shiny and chip free for the full two weeks so I was delighted. I wasn't given any maintenance advice, but I bought my own Solar Oil and applied it daily. Today I've been for my first removal and repolish and I'm just a little concerned about the removal method. It may be absolutely acceptable, but I just wanted to check before I use this salon again.
Firstly my nails were placed in a heated bowl containing a liquid (acetone??) for three minutes. Then the Shellac was kind of filed off using a metal rotating file. My nails were shaped, I then washed my hands and the new Shellac Polish was applied. I must admit the rotating metal file alarmed me, but I was too much of a coward to say anything. Will this removal method damage my nails? Or is this perfectly acceptable. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
