Evening geeks, hope your all well.

After long deliberation I've decided to give spray tanning & lashes up.

Spray Tans - I'm sick of clients coming in with old tan on, deodorant, make up, no exfoliation etc.. You dont get a nice finish on a tan if you don't follow the before advice! A client came today with a face full of make up, swore she had no perfume on until she turned green.. & she was plastered in old tan, this for me was the final straw. no matter how many times they are told they don't listen & it's becoming a regular thing people turning up with all the above on, even though I'm firm when I tell them the pre tan advice I get taken no notice of! (so annoying) so for this reason I've given up. Why should someone end up with a patchy tan & give me a bad rep when it's there fault for not prepping?

Lashes - I trained in semi permanent, but I'm too slow, not enough people to practise on to get fast at it, & to be honest theres not enough demand for semi permanents in my area.

I'm qualified in manicure & pedicure using OPI products, (I love doing mani's & especially pedi's on manky feet lol i love the transformation! I've only done a few mani/pedis but I look forward too doing the next, but with tans I dread clients coming!

So I think I've decided to offer....

OPI Manicure's
OPI Pedicure's
Shellac
Gelish
Minx
nail art

I've saved some money up & I'm just waiting upon my mani / pedi certificate arriving so I can contact sweet squared & harmony to buy products.

Do you think these services are enough? I don't particularly want to offer any thing other than what I've mentioned above so opinions would be greatly appreciated. xxx

It's a shame about tans and lashes but why continue if you're not enjoying it. I think we all know that we don't do this job for the money, it's for the love! So I think you're making the right decision.

I think the gelish and shellac will be brilliant and keep you going. Then natural nails for those not suited and minx for those who want something a bit different.

There are plenty of nail geeks on here who seem to get by and enjoy what they do, so go for it!

There will be those who say "you can't just give it up because you don't like it" but you know what? We're self employed, we can do what we like in that regard!

Good luck. Enjoy shellac, I can't wait to invest in it next month, very exciting!

Good thing about shellac and gelish is you can offer rockstar/twinkle toes as well. I am hoping to go self employed and rent a station for nails and was thinking the same but surely that will do you to begin with, you can always introduce gels/acrylics later if you wanted. Have you thought about opi's gel polish?

If you're doing what you love then success will follow. I don't think it matters so much about how many services you offer but more about what you offer in terms of demand and what your clients are looking for. It's good to be known as 'the specialist' in a particular treatment or treatments - even though you might offer other things. If you don't enjoy the tanning or lashes then I say congratulations to you for having the courage to decide to stop offering them. Just make sure you're not cutting out a whole 'market' and in turn, a bunch of money.

I love tanning did three new clients last night 2 shaved legs before tan one forgot makeup, I explained as they told me this after tan that it may effect tan if so ring me next morning and I'd try to fix was for 21 st. If you don't love it though these things will try you. I would refuse to do anyone who had obvious contraindications, makeup not a prob don't spray face.

I think it's great you have taken the decision to not do what you don't like, that's why so many people in other jobs are miserable. I can't see why you can't make a living off the above, as long as you train up in the latest trends and upgrade to new products as and when they come out to keep you up to date. Well done and best of luck! Xoxo

I'm not entirely certain that my mortgage company would agree with you on that one...

Do you not like doing them completely or just the ones that done follow your advise?

You could still offer the treatment to those who did/do follow your advice as you are trained in it but not promote the treatment or advertise it as such?

But yes as we are self employed we can choose what we like and I'm sure you will do great with just those treatments above and specialise in that area.

Unfortunately we can't all be distributors, Lynne.

I was, and still am, a beauty therapist, and my salon needs to earn me a living whilst we build up the distributorship. We've invested over 50k of our own savings into stock.

I do this job because i love it and i love the money i make from it :p If we were all doing it for the pure love of it, we wouldn't be charging. somewhere down the line we love it enough to realize there's good money in this industry for those who work hard/provide an excellent service and that's why we decide to make a living out of it (ie: train, open a place etc) :)
