Hey there,

Hope you are well. have any of you geeks purchased from the usa and have them delivered to the uk. Would like to know how much the import charges are estimated at on nail lamps and nail products? I understand that each item differs but would like an idea. Its absolutely mental trying to get in touch with Customs but seems like im hitting a brickwall. Also the site is not very helpful either.

I am mainly looking at opi nail lamps and other opi products, I also understand that other geeks use other systems, but are all quiet similar in price, just would like an estimate. examples would be appreciated such as item price, shipping costs and custom charges that you have had to pay.

Kind Regards,

Matt

Just a thought, us are 110v and UK are 240v not sure you would be able to use a lamp from the us x

Www.dutycalculator.com will tell you taxes, shipping costs should come from the supplier as only they'll know the boxed weight/dimensions but try a quick quote from ups etc to get a rough idea.

If your just buying 1 for yourself and are happy with the warrenty/plug situation you may get through customs without penalty but if your buying a consignment to sell on double check your not standing on any official distributors toes (Lena White for OPI?) And also the warrenty situation as both these could cost a lot more then customs ;)

I am looking at buying only one. I understand the plug situation. I read somewhere that someone replaced the plug with a uk one. Just did not want to be hit with extortionate import charges if i have to pay them. The price for the item and shipping charges are set so all that is left is the charges. Have any of you purchased one and if so did you have to pay custom charges?

Kind regards,

Matt

You will pay import charges. It depends on the value of the item. Also I think just changing the plug on a different volt appliance isn't advisable. I'd suggest maybe just getting an adapter.

Is it that much cheaper to not getting it in uk?

If you ever have a fault you will have to pay for shipping it back to the US to claim on warranty.

Thats very true with what your saying about shipping it back and claiming warranty. Does anyone know how much they are on lena white (Applied, still waiting for response.) or know any other british retailers.

Kind Regards,

Matt

Hi I don't think you can just change the plug I think you will need a converter to use the lamp in the uk (hubby is an electrician) you can buy an adapter in the uk and they are not that expensive but I really would consider buying a uk version as it will save you a lot of hassle if it goes wrong x

Amazon sell the converters for around £6 as it is the voltage from 110v to 220v.

Why not just buy in the country you are in? That way its up to code . You won't get slapped with taxes and it will be much quicker delivery .

The same products and equipment are available there , what's the point in messing about ?

I've an account with them, I'll PM you the trade prices.

But, if you are purchasing OPI Gel Colour they are really the only people you should deal with, you run risks of customs seizing goods, and if you manage to get anything through by the time you've paid the import tax you would have paid as much as buying it from the UK distributor (who you should be supporting regardless).

Lena White are stocktaking at the moment, maybe the reason for the no response I'll pm you the direct email address of the account manager who looks after me.

Michelle.

Shipping from the US is really expensive, and fairly slow.

Don't I know it! Some American designers use me to print there banners for uk clients because shipping it from printing it there is just pointless.

I'm not allowed to say on this forum what I buy in the US, but shipping is more expensive than the goods, unless I buy in bulk. Even the speediest shipping takes a month, and costs about 70 dollars

Thanks everyone for your support on this subject. Think im gonna play it safe and purchase one from the uk.

And by buying from the uk distributors you are helping their business, the companies who are building the brand and paying for all the press coverage in your chosen products.

It is no different to a client coming in for a treatment and asking where to buy all the products you use so they can do it themselves and cut you out, you are cutting the uk distributor out.

I and others have losses thousands because of people buying products from the USA rather then UK. And that means I am not helping to support distributors like Sweet Squared, who have lost tens of thousands of pounds of sales. Think how much they could do with that money.

Excellent, did you receive the PM I sent you?
