Hello all! I have a client that was a 3 and now a level 8. She wants a similar color as the then picture attached and I'm having gtrouble figuring out a formula. Some are telling be its an pearl blonde while others are saying it's a platinum blonde. (We use redken shade eq if that helps) . Also to further complicate things my client wants to avoid bleaching her hair as much as possible. I was told that Redken blonde idol can lift hair color of any base? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

You need to lift the hair more, if the redken blond idol is a tint or high lift, thus will not lift coloured hair. Could you not use a very low developer like 1.5% or 3% with bleach and olaplex? Then you will need to tone with a violet level 10or 9, to neutralise the underlying gold tones. Then you would probably need an 8 based blue/pearl and mix 3parts of this with 1part violet and the lowest developer you can use.
Definitely use olaplex if available.

Hey RonRay! Thanks for taking your time to reply!
I want to bleach since it seems the easiest but she really wants an alternative option. An old coworker was able to balayage bleach hair with redken blonde idol and told my client she can do it without damaging her hair...I have my doubts which is what prompted me to ask on here! :)

I'm not sure what it is, so I'm not going to say you definitely can't, but usually rule of thumb is that it doesn't lift coloured hair. Could you do a strand test maybe?
I'm assuming you would need to use a higher strength developer with the blonde idol. So if you think about the lightening process, and what the hair goes through, I think I'd be more inclined to use a good quality bleach +1.5%
Do a strand test with both if possible and compare, that way you can compare texture, colour, elasticity and porosity. Good luck!
