Hi all,

I have a client who would like to brighten up her level 3 colour. She's 100% grey and has been colouring her hair for years she gets level 3 on her roots every five weeks. A few years ago she'd red lites in her hair and liked the contrast. I did a strand test of L' Oreal Majicontrast, Magenta Red with 40 Vol and it barely showed at all. I expect this is because of all the build up of colour over the years. Any suggestions as to how I could get red lites to show without lifting her hair with prelightener first as she said she'd it done that way a few years ago and didn't like the condition of her hair after this. Or any other suggestions welcome?????

How about doing a cleansing bath - Effasor with water or similar - to lift some of the tint before doing the red, without compromising the condition too much.

Majicontrast is designed to be used under heat, not to patronise but did you follow the instructions for use correctly?

At the end of the day, if it turns out that pre-lightener is the only way to lift the tint then she'll either have to accept that or not get it done.

You are the professional. Make sure she knows what products to use to keep her hair in good condition after the service.
