Sorry for highjacking thread but I had eyelash extensions done last night and only one of my eyes is swollen and painful!?! I had to tell the therapist my eye was stinging while she was doing it and I think it was the gel pad - it felt like it was in my eye! my question is do you know how long it will take for swelling and pain to go? and should I do anything to my eye, it almost feels bruised underneath its really put me off having it doen ever again :(

Sounds like it could have been too far up and slightly sticking into your eye, she should have checked you were comfortable and if not rearranged the pad or tape for you,
she should have removed the pad completely if you told her it was stinging and just used the tape method,
you could try a cold compress just under your eye or a nice thick cucumber slice cut in half to see if that eases it,
try to avoid touching the upper lashes as they need 24 hrs to fully set,
if not any better by tomorrow may be worth a visit to your gp, hth

Hi Guys - Wow I love finding new forums and chats about ELE!!
ok now that im over my initial excitment....

Iv been a lash stylist since 2001 and have seen many scary things!!
I just wanted to say that i feel for all of you who have reactions Peggy69 it sounds like you may have had a little upset that was due to the glue that gave you the reactive conjunctivitis (Im no Dr so my advice to any1 who has any sort of infection is to get your butt to the Dr asap!)

There are so many glues out there that you may very well be allergic to the glue and its taken a little while for you to have a reaction - this is possible, you can have them on for over a year and then develop an allergic reaction due to sensitization.

Unfortunately once this occurs its unlikely that you will be able to continue to have the ELE :(

I also noticed a few of you talking about tape and under eye pads... Im a little bit of a sceptic about the under eye pads as they contain gel and other ingredients that are not really meant to be mixed with water (tears) and can cause all sorts of problems.

A super dooper hot tip!!!!!! This one is tried and tested lol
Go grab your self some Nexcare Waterproof tape - this stuff is hypoallergenic and can be used on the most sensitive areas of the eyes. You will need a swipe of Vaseline, but its well worth a try. If your clients really want an under eye treatment then give them one after they have had their lashes done.

These treatments all have use with eyelash extensions" written on them but again they are also from China and such places and are not meant to be used with water (tears).

I have pictures that show you how to cut the tape and make the patches if you would like them please email me at [email protected].

Feel free too ask any questions and I will try and help :)

I have had this same reaction with my eyes, I do my own lashes (using the express method) and have used marvellash glue and lash base glue, I never had a problem until I got conjunctivitus, I removed all the lashes and let my eyes heal but since then whenever I have had lashes on my eyes swell up, each time it gets worse and I've got to the point where I am frightened of doing myself some permanent damage so don't put them on anymore.

Does anyone know what it could be that I am allergic to and is it possible that it is the fumes as I am considering getting them done at a salon so I can't accidentally touch my eyelids with the glue but if I could be allergic to the fumes then there is no point.

Any advice welcome, before anyone tells me off for doing my own, I am a qualified eyelash technician and put my own eyelashes on the way I was taught to on my course (using the express method, I can do the classic method too but not on myself obviously).

Thanks in advance for any suggestions xx

hi
i have just been reading the above about the gel pads. i am a qualified eyelash technician and have not had any problem until i wanted to do my daughters eyelashes. within minutes her eyes were watering and itching. i thought she could be allergic to the glue until i read this post. i will take your advice and use the vaseline and tape - THANK YOU :)

I've just got back from a and e
Had eye lash extensions on just over a week ago , had sensitive eyes a few days after having them on and the lashes started going all different ways , today woke up with blurred vision in my one eye and swollen so I can barely open it and so sore . Doctor said its an eye infection and we both believe it's from lash extensions
