hi erica, i havent done gel for a few years ( i did my training with ibd). mainly i felt more comfortable with l&p which is what i have done for years.
anyway i have bought a brisa kit and CANT WAIT to do the training with it (waiting for the kids to go back to school:) ) what i'm saying to you (as the others have) you wont have a easy time getting the feel of gel all by yourself, buying a cheap brand with no training wont allow you to see if you do like it..its set yourself up for failure.
i know where your coming from though..i'm one of those who has to have something yesterday, lol!
IMO gel is quite a tricky product to master and you really do need a good product and training to get the best out of yourself.
IBD is quite a tacky gel compared to brisa, you do need to "string in"..thats why its tacky. brisa isnt like that at all..and because its not i'm not sure what to do with it at the moment:irked: dreading to see my gel models back this week.:Scared:

Since you are try to decide on which product to train with, I would suggest that you first research the training available to you. Go and see some different trainers & tell them your situation. They may give you a demo & possibly even let you try it. Although I really don't think you can make a decision based on this. It takes a long time to get the hang of any system, so what ever you try will seem tricky at first.
My recommendation would be to start of with L&P though & then go on to gel training once you have mastered that.

hiya, and thank you for the reply .. i noticed on the demo video the stringing in as you called it .. well assuming its that .. where they dip the brush right down into the pot and then let it string across the tip/nail joint? .. please excuse my lack of terminology there lol. i did think it looked a bit tricky and potentially quite messy. I have also seen and read up on the brisa, and from what i have read on here and heard from the lady who does my nails, creative is probably one of the best around, if not the best .. the thing is, they dont do any training near me and unfortunately i dont drive yet (i am waiting on my provisional license and start lessons as soon as it arrives . have even got a teacher organised already lol) .. anyway .. thats the reason i have been looking at other companies.
Good luck when you see your gel models this week .. i'm sure everything will be great :)

Hiya
i have already been doing that, there is an NVQ or VCTC at the local FE college .. thats a year long course and covers everything from hygeine & sanitization, to diseases and conditions of the nail to manicure/pedicure and then enhancements. Unfortunately, those courses don't start until september and i am eager to start .. tho obviously if i cant find another course in my area that i can go on before then, then i will apply for one of those.
Thank you for the reply

ok .. i have rang a few people today.

Creative - rang them just incase they had a new centre nearer me which hadnt been added to the site yet, and no luck (well it was worth a try wasnt it lol)

IBD (graftons) - they dont have anything in south yorkshire at all

EZ Flow - the lady here was the most helpful .. the nearest centre they have is Doncaster, which is too far for me without transport, she is still going to send out the booklet and info, and when the lady who does the doncaster training gets back, she is going to ask her if there is anything they can do to help.

Essential (the make on my nail trainer) - they are sending out details, but didnt give details of any centres etc on phone .. i think they are just a correspondance course .. which is ok i suppose, but what if i need to see how to do a specific thing (suppose thats something i need to think about eh)

Now its a case of waiting for a couple of days for the information to come in for me to have a look .. tho to be honest i am resigning myself to the fact that i will have to wait for september to apply for the local FE college.

For the time being i'll just carry on with my nail art on my new best buddy, mrs nail trainer lolol

sorry for rambling again

Its hard enough learning to nails on anyone else / the trainer in the first place let alone going straight to doing your own nails. If I were you I'd get booked on a course, practice on your trainer and when your happy with that then start practicing on yourself. Good luck chick x x x

i found their website and unfortunately calgels courses are luton, manchester, nottingham and scotland.

i've also been onto united beauty's site. there is no centres listed for rotherham, but there is a few for yorkshire. i have rang them and left a message for someone to contact me just to be sure.

my mind's gone blank now and i cant think of any other brands lol

what i will do is just start reading up on anatomy of the fingers and diseases and all of the other theory subjects etc, ready for hopefully getting into college in september. (i've been reading threads on books etc and have a list to start looking for lol) i will also keep an eye on those sites (which are now stored in my faves) and keep checking them for any changes.

thank you everyone for your replies and input .. and if you can think of any other brands/centres etc that i have not mentioned, please dont hesitate to shout them out lol

Erica xx
