Hey,

I'm new to all this, I am looking to change careers, Sales Consultant to Beauty Therapist. I started a course when I left school at 16, but decided to leave as I wanted a job. I'm now 23, and regretting this decision, :(! I've researched local colleges, however I was wondering if anyone takes on level 1/2 apprentices? What courses are the best way forward, NVQ? If its best to go down the private route and study certain modules, waxing, makeup, massage?

I'm also egar to go on the HD brow course but no one has got back to me!

Help & advice is much appreciated!

Id do an NVQ if i was you, just looks better in my opinion x

Thanks, finding it hard to be left without any advise on how to retrain!

have you tried your local college looking at there courses or a private beauty school? x

Hi,
I to retrained, but I was 28 at the time. I would do a nvq 2 first and then u can add on any extra courses u want to do after or go on to do level 3.
What area are u in? There are lots of part time courses available I studied at London college of beauty therapy 2 days a week for 7 months so I could still work part time.
Also lots of colleges are funded if ur under 25.
I hope this helps

Looked at the local college, just not sure which route to go down !

Thanks, it's my age that worries me attending the local college I think as well, I'm on the Wirral. London is a bit too far haha

Try Carlton institute they have places nationwide, and do nvq and short courses x

Thanks Chlo, yeah fingers crossed there will be something out there for me! X

I've been to the local college today, basically they have given me two options, NVQ level 2 FT or PT in the evening, which includes skin care, facial massage, hand and foot care, eyelash & eyebrow treatments.
Now my question is, are all NVQ's the same, study the same modules etc?

X

NVQ is the better option. I didn't have any experience but got a job in a salon (thanks mum!) and was put on a course.

Maybe if you apply and say you have some experience but just go in to help out for now, then get on a government funded course. The job centre will be able to tell you a little more about that, or local colleges. Basically, if you're on benefits or work in a salon, you can get trained up for nothing. That's what i did, and it was at NVQ level. Hope this helps.

Thanks hun, don't know why they make it so difficult to go back and retrain!

In answer to your new question, I asked my tutor this, but most NVQ level 2's are the same or close enough. If you get the level 2 book: Beauty Therapy: The Foundations: Amazon.co.uk: LORRAINE NORDMANN: Books

everything that could possibly be covered is in there, so if you're interested in something that isn't on your course, you still have all the information before you train for it, but they are mostly the same. We didn't cover lash perming on mine because it's not so popular.

Thanks hun, don't know why they make it so difficult to go back and retrain!

Because unfortunately, there are so many people doing it. If it's what you really want to do, stick to it!
