Hi Folks,
I wonder if someone could offer me some hair colour advice...
I have long dark hair. Its a few inches longer than my waist and thick but fine. (Each hair is fine, but I have loads of it. Am I explaining that ok? Lol) Naturally it used to be dark brown with a tiny hint of red but now I have maybe 10% grey. Its in good condition as I rarely use a hair drier or straighteners on it and I'm fanatical about getting it trimmed so it doesn't look nasty at the ends.
On and off for the past few years I've been dying it using home colours (I know, boo, hiss!) but I'm finding that the grey that is coming through is more and more resistant and even colours with a guarantee of 100% grey coverage dont really do the job any more. I now have hair with maybe 10% grey scattered through it visible for about 3 inches at my parting. Purely through luck the rest of my hair is evenly coloured though the length but I suspect the remnants of various previous home dye jobs are still in the hair.
So, I can now afford to go to the hairdressers and have a proper colour done but I dont know what will cover the grey, suit me as I'm getting older and hopefully, not be too high maintenance. I'm happy to go once a month etc but I dont want to be fretting about my roots looking bad for 2 weeks out of the 4. Previously I've used chocolately shades and avoided red ones as I have a pale complexion, green eyes and I dont tan, but I'm happy to go lighter if thats the best option for someone in their early 40's.. Do I need highlights? Lowlights? Full head of colour? I have no clue...
Can anyone give me advice on what will flatter me as I inevitably get older and greyer? Also, I'm happy to pay more as I completely understand that my long hair takes longer to work on but are there any processes that are just not advisable on hair this long and with possibly the remains of home dye through the lengths.
Thanks for reading to the end of this, and for any advice you can give me!
