hi
i was just wondering if any of you use Loreal in your salons and what you think of the product really. i use majirel as my permenant tints, majiblonde for my high lift tints which i am finding they are turning out very brassy and muddy looking unless put on a natural base of 8 and above, and i use majirouge as my vibrant reds and in the semi range i use richesse and hi richesse we also stock a few of the luo colours too. basically i feel like im stuck in a rut using the same colours on every other client and just a bit bored and wanted to know if you have any suggestions of a few different ranges which i can maybe stock in the salon so i have a bit more choice especially in the high life tints.
any thoughts would be very appreciated

I used to use majirel when I trained. I remember when Majiblond was first launched and my manager tried it on my hair. I am a base 7 with strong gold undertones in my hair. I told my manager to use 911 and it still came out very brassy. It was awful. Your right that you need at least a base 8 even when using Majiblond.

If the client expects a very clean cool blonde shades like Majiblonde , I would prelighten especially if their natural base is below 7

I use Igora Royal and Koleston, but to be honest I would still face the same problems with those unless I prelighten. Trying to achieve those high lift blondes on darker bases always ends up with brassy tones.

How does Majimeche work, is that a type of prelightner you could use first?

thanks for your reply, i have never tried the majimeche but my client is a natural base 6 to 7 and i use 900s and 911 with 30vol as a tint all over. i have been using this for the last 6 months and she is now geting bored of it and wants it to be a cleaner blonde im just stuck really and not too sure what to use. how yould you pre lighten it if its a tint all over? and do you know of any other ranges of colours that have got nice hi lift tints?

If your Majiblond is not lifting as well as you want, then the only way I suppose would be to prelighten with bleach or a bleach bath. Maybe effassor could be used for this also.
You would have to check the effassor instructions. I have only used effassor a few times to strip out some darker colors in order to use a tint with a few extra shades of lift. Remember that if you pre lighten with bleach or a bleach bath you will be damaging your clients hair more, so maybe it might be worth asking your client if she wants to have bleached highlights through her hair instead of the full head tint.
The igora royal and koleston do have high lift tints which can use 12% peroxide. But I would only use this with foils and would never use this as a full head tint.
I think the results are very similar to the majiblond. If clients always want very clean bright blondes, then for me the only way is to use bleach, unless like you say they have a natural base 8 or above.
I'm sorry, I can't really give you any more info, as these are the only products I have ever used. Hopefully someone else will read this and give us more info.

Has anyone else ever used 12% peroxide with full head tints. If you have please let us know the results on how safe it is on the scalp. I'm told that you should never use it, but I'm sure some people do.

:eek:xx

With majiblond you can use it with 12% on scalp. A trick with majiblond is to add a tiny sprinkle of bleach powder into the mix. Not in tha instructions but it works.

If you are using it full head, you can mix and apply as normal, If there are stubborn areas, apply a little unmixed tint for the last 10 mins, the extra ammonia caused it to lift the yellow out.

You can use high lift tint on scalp with 40vol I use koleston in the salon and love 12.81. gets rid of orangey tones :) some colour ranges have a booster for hi lift bit I don't know if that's because there hi lifts don't lift well.

thanks for your replys, i will definately be trying to add a sprinkle of powder in the mixture next time never thought of doing that but thanks for the tip and i am really interested in the redken range as loreal tints majirel are now £7.30 per tube how much is a tube of tint in the redken is there a big difference in price?

Yes I agree this is what I do and it takes those little yellow tones out that are seen in the light and also adding a little bleach does prevent it going back to those horrid orange under tones
