hi this is a question that i should really know the answe to but for some reason i keep doubting myself! using majirel i would normally be happy using 6% if i want to lift up to 2 shades and any more i would use 9% but i am tinting some ones hair today who is a natural base 3 and she wants to be a warm level 5, as her hair is so dark should i be using 9% ? i remember in my colour keys that once you get a natural base as dark as a 3 then its harder to lift....can some one help be please! thanks in advance x

Yeah it can be a pain to lift on a dark base. A lower vol may leave you with warm tones ... Orangey!

Use it with 40.vol it will leave you with lovely natural lowlights !

What is her natural colour and is there any root to cover any grey etc? U cant lift tint with tint especially with dark pigments! So u need to do a mild bleach bath through this to lift a couple of shades then apply your desired shade and tone thi will only need to be with 1.9% or at the most 3%! hth!:)

i have never used 40vol with majeral

if she is naturally a base 3 (not coloured) the yes i would use 30vol aslong as there was no grey.

you are correct, anything under a 4 natural base you have to take as 20vols 1 level lift 30 vols 2 levels lift
it will show the undertones as you know 3 will be very warm once lifted

Is it all her natural colour? You could suggest she has some highlights, these don't have to be blonde but it will help give it a lighter look. What colour are you planning on putting on? Does she just want be a lighter brown or more of a warm brown? I love the 4.35 in majirel for a chocolate brown, it's one of my favourites, or a 5.52 adds a nice touch of mahogany, just enough to add some warmth and shine.

i agree with the above if she is natural base 3 all over with no grey to achieve a 5 i would 9% for two levels of lift!:)

TINT DOES NOT LIFT TINT what colours are you using Craig let us in on the secret as yours colours would save me so much trouble. :)

thanks for all the replies! i have only just seen them all :/ she had had a tint elsewhere and needed her regrowth done, she wanted the same as previous but the previous colour had lifted to between a 6 an 5 as she had been in the sun, her natural base was a 3. I used 1/2 5 and 1/2 5,35 with 9 %in the end and just took it thru the mid length and ends for the last ten(with water), came out nice...thanks for the help any way peeps :)

I know tint doesn't lift tint! I thought she said.she was all natural.. No previous colour!
