I am looking to get advice from someone in the makeup industry or knows about it regarding makeup courses. I just moved to Bournemouth and I trying to start a new career in makeup. Can someone guide me into what courses to take or if someone would like to teach me I am passionate about makeup and eager to learn. I don't have an income yet so I cannot really afford something expensive in terms of courses. Thank you in advance:idea::lol:

Im going to be rather blunt here im afraid:

If you cant afford a good course how are you going to afford insurance or a propper kit?

Insurance and makeup kits are very expensive.

Or will you be rocking up to a wedding with Barry M or rimmel and uninsured?

Local MUAs will prob not teach you or let you tag along as your not train or insured and they like to protect their client base and are not going to tech someone who might be their future competion.

London is the place to be if want to do makeup full time as it has more oppertunities, bournemouth only really has oppertunities to do bridal makeup as there is no film or photography oppertunities unless you work with amutures and they dont really pay well or pay at all and from experience tend to mess people about.

Expect to work for free to build your portfolio for a year or so as this where you will meet contacts etc

For most people it ends up a rather expensive hobby as the market is over saterated and rank amutures under cutting the pros to get a piece of the action.

I would strongly recommend applying to work at some of the makeup counters in the bournemouth area to see if you really are 'passionate about makeup' as there you can do makeup full time without having to spend money on a kit or worry when you next job is coming from and some give good staff discounts on products.

You could also maybe train as a beauty therapist (they cover makeup application in the course) so you at lest have other treatments to full back on and have a regular income comming in.

Yes I agree with Lady Murasaki, it's not cheap or easy to get into a make up career. It also depends on what type of make up interests you.

I think applying for a make up counter job is great advice. And would definitely give you a foot in the door!
