The procedure is like this. I'll describe it as I wax my clients. I don't know how its done in the UK.
I have the client come in and fill in a consent form. I then have him get undressed and lay on the table. Well depending on whats waxed. If its a brazilian, he just takes off his pants.
I don't use towels to cover him as I need access. I apply a skin cleanser to the area(s) being waxed then I apply a thin coat of oil. I then apply the wax, I use hard wax for sensitive skin and strip wax for not so sensitive parts.
As to scrotum tearing, its very rare, I pull the scrotal skin taut when I remeove the wax. I wont lie to you, it hurts when the hair is being pulled out.
Is it worth it. Alot of guys think so. A lot of jocks like it. Prevents jock itch etc.
What if you get OMG an erection. Well I prefer it, the shaft is easier to wax then. Its no big deal if you do. It happens. Hope that helps.
LOL, I've always used "Hooke's Law" as taught in GCSE Physics as a euphemism for erections; yes I guess you are right about it being easier to wax the shaft though as the skin will be a lot more taught; needs to go down afterwards though to wax the front bit of it though lol...
As for my personal experiences of having male intimate waxing done... I have this done as part of a full body wax, and tend not to wear anything during the wax (although my "bits" are covered by a towel when that area is not being waxed); my therapist uses "hot wax" for waxing my scrotum and shaft, as strip wax tends to hurt far too much there and I tolerate the hot wax much better.
