Hiya I am new to the site and profession. I am not sure whether I should start of with a manicure and pedicure course 15 sessions, or a nail enhancement course which contains one session on manicures. What is the best way to start in this business. Thanks

knowledge is power ! you need 'em both. best to begin with mani / pedi as you will master this much more quickly than enhancements, so hopefully it will subsidise your income as it will be some time before you will be able to charge for enhancements. as well as financial benefit, you will have a better background knowledge of anatomy/physiology and that will help when you move on to enhancements

I agree with Angelfingers start with mani&pedi and work your way up.

Me too! (Agree that is).

I've just done an ITEC Mani/Pedi course and am now booked to do a Creative L&P course in November.

I'm really glad I did the mani/pedi first, as the others say, gives you a good background to anatomy/physiology/diseases etc. etc. Yoy should also get some info/lessons that concentrate on things like setting up/ professional ethics etc. If you do an ITEC or NVQ this will be part of the course.

You don't HAVE to be able to do Mani/Pedi to do enhancements but seems to me to be a bit like trying to become a fashion designer when you know nothing about material.

As others have said before you should be able to offer all services to your clients and this is the easiest to get you started. Good point that you will be able to do mani/pedi to help fund further training to learn enhancements.

There have been loads of threads in the past about training/college/private courses etc. Do a search under stuff like 'NVQ' 'VTCT' 'ITEC' 'College' etc. and I'm sure you'll find past threads to help.

Thanks for all your help. I am going to sign up for a manicure and pedicure course and then see how that goes. I am planning to set up a mobile business and if I see there is a lot of requests for enhancements I will do the next course. Will let you know how it goes.

As was said start with Mani's and pedi's, they are always a great place to start. Any knowledge is better than nothing, so go for it. I'm sue you will love the first bit then when you get into enhancements you will be hooked. Good luck in your new venture.
