Hi all,
I’m thinking about offering manicure and possibly pedicure services to my local residential homes, are there any issues that people have come up against ?
I’m only going to be working very part time due to my little one , but thought as I’m mobile, this might be quite a nice one to do.
Any tips or suggestions?
Thanks
Xx

I have lots friends who do mobile and biggest problem they say is moving all your item and product. I can see where problem is with being a salon on wheel you have so many gel and nail polish and tool and product that you need to move to every client. You need good case for this and maybe good organize for this. You maybe also will have to work in strange place so access to water maybe hard or easy if you need it. This is just things I hear mobile friends say but I have no experience for this so maybe other girls can give more advice.

Thanks - yep I’m honing my kit down as I’m mobile anyway and have a couple of good cases - but yes can already see the advantage of a salon but am only doing to be doing a few evenings a week and maybe one day , so it’s not worth having premises at the moment

I’ve been mobile for the past 3 years and I love it! I’ve never personally had any problems with access to water as it’s always been at a clients home. I have a decent sized car so can fit all of my equipment in, you just have to be organised that’s all. I love the fact that I earn so much more mobile than I did employed. I don’t have the overheads a salon/room has. The only downside is the constant getting things in and out of the car and setting up but for me the financial gain is more than worth it. It’s just really important to protect your posture when lifting things in and out all day x

Emily- if you don’t mind me asking what treatments do you find you are booked for ? And when you started up , what’s worked best in terms of booking clients in?

So my most popular treatment is gel pedicures, but I do get a variation. Firstly I have a loyalty scheme so after every 5th treatment (on the 6th) they receive 20% off and they get the same if they recommend a friend (their friend gets 20% off of their first appointment too). This has worked really really well for me, it’s built up my client base and client loyalty. Also giving each client a copy of your price list at their first appointment is a brilliant way to introduce them to other treatments.

They all sound fab and had thought about the refer a friend and the 20 % discount scheme .
The price list thing is also good . So thanks for that .

I think the biggest challenge you will face with this age group will be a) their mobility and b) contra indications.

I often find older people will struggle to lift feet in and out of pedi bowls unaided, and may struggle to relax their hands due to health conditions.
You will also find they are more prone to contraindications and disorders such as diabetes, cellulitis and other related illnesses so this is something you would need to pay particularly close attention :)

HTH :) x
