hi guys

when we start our assessments in college over next few weeks, we have ben told we can do parrafin wax or hot oil if we want, now so far most have opted for the wax, but id like to try the hot oil, now when in college, she has the oils for us to use, i think its sweet almond or grapeseed and puts a drop of something in, like lemon oil or tea tree etc

what i was wondering was, for me to use this at home to practice, what would i buy, is it ok to buy natures way aromatherapy (or similar) grapeseed/ almond oil carrier oil to use for massgae, or is it a specific oil for massaage (hope that makes sense) and also i know there are a few oils that non-aromatherapy trained people should not use, so are there any that are safe to buy and add to carrier oil to make nice massage oil?

have searched few threads but found nothing that helped me particularly
thanks

xxxxxx

Grapeseed and sweet almond oil are good to use as massage oil, but check with your insurance company reguarding mixing your own aromatherapy blends as I think you may have to be qualified in aromatherapy to use your own blended oils on paying customers. You might be able to use pre-blended massage oils which you could buy from sallys or ellisons.

Sweet almond oil and grapeseed oil can be bought from any supplier and they are both perfectly good for massage. Alternatively if you have your own mani/pedi range they will often come with their own massage oil.

when I was taught warm/hot oil treatments we used cuticle oil, and I have always used this method. I warm the oil in a small glass bowl put in another bowl of warm water, put 10 gauze strips into the oil, then wrap one around each finger. When all 10 were wrapped with the oil soaked gauze, the hands go into a plastic liner, then towling mitts. I then use my normal manicure massage lotion to finish off when hot oil treatment complete. You can buy bigger bottles of cuticle oil from beauty express, (i think, from memory)!!! This also has a nice smell already. Just a thought, hth:hug:

I use Body shop Monoi miracle oil, or massage oil with monoi de tahiti, its really delicate like jasmine or gardenia, clients always comment on it, its not overly expensive either x

oh another good couple of ideas ta girls, will make notes

thanks xxxx

i was taught to do hot oil manicures with carrier oils such as almond oil, grapeseed oil etc but i have tried it on myself with pre blended oils

you cannot blend oils yourself unless you are a qualified aromatherapist

try this site for oils Mantra Aromatherapy

Anyone can buy them from lots of high street stores. It doesn't mean anyone can use them properly though. You do have to be a qualified aromatherapist to blend your own oils to use on clients. Yes you're right, there are some you have to be very careful with, and unless you're trained in their proper use it can be very dangerous.

I'd stick with pre-blended oils or plain base oils if I were you! :)

If you are going to use a pre blended oil you will have to do a more thourough consultation as they are still absorbed into the skin and the blood system, thus possibly affecting any medication they are on or conditions they may have.x
