Just a quick one. A lady I have been tanning today told me she is having some micro bead hair extensions but when she asked the lady if she could cut them in she said she wasn't trained to cut hair just do extensions!! Is this common practice or not, I found this very strange but thought I would ask the hair experts!!! ( I'm a mobile tanner)

To carry out such a service it must be completed fully by the extensionists. An understanding on blending (cutting) hair extensions is essential to ensure a natural finish.

hi

as an extentionist she should be able to blend them in but unless she is an hairdresser she wont be able to cut the clients own hair. hope this helps x

Anybody that's had legitimate training - hairdresser or not - should have been properly taught how to blend.

If someone refuses, then I'd guess they hadn't been trained (and therefore also won't have proper insurance, tell your client to ask to see a certificate). There are a lot of youtube videos etc showing how to install micros and so unfortunately it's pretty easy for any old sod to sell themselves as an extensionist.

Another reason may be that they have been trained recently, but are scared to blend. I am fairly new to the game and this was the most daunting part of it for me as I am not a hairdresser - no grief please! However you just have to practice lots and go for it!

A girl that fitted mine earlier in the year couldn't cut, annoyingly she didn't tell me this until after she fitted my hair. She knew I was a fully qualified hairdresser and extensionist, but told me I had to go to a professional to have them cut!!!! Lucky I am one. I personally feel that one day courses are not adequate enough to show non hairdressers how to cut extensions, it's not just about cutting it's about having confidence in handling hair, which u don't gain in one day. You wouldn't be let lose in a salon cutting hair after one days training.

Just out of interest what did your client do? Hopefully she looked elsewhere x
