Hi, I'm looking for some advice over my extensions which I had fitted just over 3 months ago. I have 3 micro bead wefts fitted and have been following all of the aftercare tips given to me by my hairdresser and have been having monthly maintenance appointments. The problem I'm having is that in the past 3 weeks the small sections of my own hair that are enclosed within the beads have been pulling away from my scalp and the weave has partially come off. This has happened with just my bottom weave, but with 2 separate sections of my hair. I'm really concerned that the extensions are pulling my own hair out at the root and that this is going to leave me with bald spots. Below is a photo of the section of my own hair that came out today. Is this normal or am I or my hairdresser doing something wrong?

Definitely not normal! That’s a huge section of your natural hair. Maintenance for a microweave is 6 weeks. During maintenance the rings should be removed, dead hair and matting removed and a fresh section of natural hair and new ring applied. If that’s what your extensionist is doing then you may be being too rough. Don’t leave things like this though. You will have bald patches.

Hi CeeCee71, no, that's not what my extentionist has been doing. She has just been pushing the beads up and is in and out of my house in ten minutes. My scalp then tends to hurt for around a week after tightening, so much so I can't rest my head on my pillow at night

I've been to a different extentionist this week for a second opinion and was shocked to be told that I have tension olopecia Apparently there aren't enough beads to support the weight of the hair and the beads haven't been changed and as a result I have sore spots and bald patches on my scalp. I'm really upset and angry about the whole thing as two weeks ago my original extentionist told me that everything was fine with my scalp and that I did not have any bald patches despite me mentioning that my hair had fallen out ...

Oh sorry to hear that! There are some total cowboys out there for sure. No method should hurt or cause pain. I have a really sensitive head and sometimes feel a bit of discomfort but any pain needs to be addressed immediately. And just pushing the rings up the same section of hair repeatedly will absolutely cause hair loss. More hair needs to be added to each section to replace the hair that has naturally fallen out. Hope you manage to get something sorted out xx
