How do you know if your own hair has naturally fallen out or has been ripped out from the root when wearing extensions?

I asked my friend to fit my extensions for me - possibly not a good idea however I talked her through it and assumed she would do a not bad job.

They have only been in about 2-3 weeks and already i have lost about 5 bonds, and removed about 5 because i could feel them hanging on my only a few strands of hair. So clearly something isnt right.

I am asking for my own interest as I would like to know if i have any clients whos bonds fall out wether or not to be concerned.
My hair isnt overly thick or overly thin but Im thinking the extensions are not holding up in my head at all. The hair that has come out has lots of my own hair in it and i can even see some roots on them so my guess is they are being pulled from the root.

WHy is this? Is that why the micro ring method is not recommended for thin hair? That concerns me tho as my hair really isnt too thin...
I know the sections can cause this ie not enough hair in the bond but ive been running my fingers through checking etc one day is fine next i have a new one hanging on by a thread .....

Any advice appreciated. I am most likely going to need to take these out but just wanted to know why this happens, thanks xx

Is your friend trained in extensions?

I knew that would be my reply :) but no she is not, I talked her through it all. To be honest the level of training you get isnt brilliant, I pretty much showed her the basics i was taught, which is only essentials then you need to work on them yourself to improve with models. She wouldnt have done anything against what I told her I know this may have some impact but surley not this much ? x

Yes I talked her through the procedure, but I also got out the model (dolls) head like I had in training and she did a few bonds. I showed her how to correctly section and apply and also how the importance of fitting the correct amount of hair etc.

Anyway I know this was my own risk im not asking about risks im asking if this is what happens when someone has think hair, is this why we dont use micro rings or is it purely down to incorrect application ? For me it has been a good learning experience to feel the hair in myself, learn how to maintain it, see how it can go wrong etc.

This forum is really helpful but there are too many people on it looking to attack each post especially when its someone new to something rather than support them they are criticised and attacked. I dont mean mysef or the replies on this post specifically, i see it everyday. Whats the point in this forum if everyone on it has to be so perfect !

I think also Hun that you have stated your untrained friend did you hair .. And basically this is the reason why! It's defiantly down to the application Hun :(

Probably best to get them out before any more damage is done. Hope your ok x

I am not charging the public for anyone as I am still learning and practicing with models hence my posts.

My real issue here is I did a 1 day course, during the course I fitted about 20 bonds of hair, first half of the day was theory, 2nd half was practice. I just want to understand a bit more on why it falls out and can it really be because of the fitting. I guess in a way I am stressing that I will do that to a client but I have been trained and I am getting more confident with each head I do however things like this set you back and you come on a page like this for a bit of advice but only to be shot down for not being professional.
The question i asked was about extensions not hairdressing. I am not a ladies hairdresser and I did not get trained on reasons for hair loss, this is not part of the course content.

LOve Locks thank you for your support and I do take feedback on board, good or bad. I hear about people fitting their own extensions all the time and they dont seem to loose their hair... I just wanted to know why the hair loss, as natural hairloss is to be expected but this is more than natural hair loss.

My hair ------ I took the extensions out :( My head is actually burning today so I do appologise if i sound a bit less than happy in my post but this is why im feeling a little irritable :)
My hair is thinner for sure than before the extensions were in which will probably be much to the delight of persianista however my conclusion on this is possibly due to a reaction to the micro rings themselves. I wouldnt have a burning head if i wasnt reacting to the rings, even now that they are out my head still burns (hopefully this will subside after i have a shower). I have an alergy to a lot of earings, gold, silver, costume doesnt matter some my ears allow, others they withdraw. ALso I have been through serveral wedding rings due to reactions to the gold so i obviously have allergic reactions to metal substances... it just dawned on me today when i was taking out the rings that this could possibly be why since the micro rings are made of metal .... if anyone is reading, do u think it could be ? xx

The sore scalp could be due to rings hense when you do consult you apply a few strands to test :)
It could also be where the extensions have pulled your natural hair and irritated your scalp they could have been way to tight not enough hair pulled through and positioned incorrectly.
I hope your ok 😔.
This could also all conclude to why you have lost hair.

I know, i didnt do a strand test for myself, i just wanted them in to experience them for myself so i can share experience with potential clients.
I dont think the extensions were too tight as they were all correctly positioned about 1cm from the scalp, when running my fingers through after applied i didnt feel any that didnt have enough hair pulled through but as the days went on i was finding more day that were hanging on by a few bits of hair that i had to remove.

I just worry i could do that to a client but i am doing everything as I was taught and no one i have applied extensions to has complained of what i have had so im sure thats a good sign. Ive put a wee post on to see if anyone has had any experience of allergic reactions to the rings as i think this could be possible.

I am glad to have them out now and let my own hair grow again :o xx

Thank you... I do appologise if i havent come across to be very polite but this has been a stressful day to say the least with my hair crisis. Ive just searched the forums and came across a girl who had extensions fitted and told the person fitting them she has a metal allergy who said it would be fine. She put a pic up, her scalp looked really red and sore which thankfully i dont think mines has got to that yet but her bonds were really close to her scalp so that wont have helped. My bonds were def kept at the right distance away thankfully or i may have been in a right state. Thinking about it its really silly of me to get the micro rings but it didnt even cross my mind as my allergy is nothing thats ever caused me any problems except to not really wear earings too often.

The only thing spoke about in training that would possibly reffer to this was to do a strand test, they said to apply 1 strand of hair, but didnt say why ie someone could be allergic to the metal of the rings and theres so much info to take in on the day you dont think to question this.

We were told not to fit micro rings on fine hair, but werent told why exactly, ive never thought i had fine hair and with the hair loss i wasnt sure it it was natural hair loss or because i have fine hair... which was kind of my question this morning but i havent come across very well at all with my worry.

I am so glad I took them out now before any serious damage and im still glad that this as actually been a really good learning experience even if my own hair has been at the expense of it. I appreciate your replies people like me are probably annoying but im the type of person to check everything twice to make sure im doing it right. Ive done 3 models and will probably do another 30 more before i start charging lol xx
