Manufacturers instructions tend to be 16 therefore you won’t be insured under 16 xxx

I stick to no younger than 16 for chemical services.
As above, all instructions on hair colour (inc. box dyes) state they are not to be used on persons under 16 yrs so if you ignore the manufacturers advice, your insurer won’t cover you in the event of a claim.

I know it’s hard as many youngsters start experimenting with colour in their early teens but I think 11 is far too young and I would definitely discourage them as their body is growing rapidly and you really don’t know if the chemicals used could cause them harm at some point. Anecdotally, I’m aware of the increase in people who I know becoming allergic to substances that was pretty much unheard of 30 plus years ago, so I tend to be cautious where children are concerned.

If you are being put under pressure and don’t wish to do it, just say that your insurance won’t cover you as that’s perfectly true.

Another thought, I read elsewhere a case where a divorced father took his young daughter to a salon to get her hair bleached and coloured as she’d asked him for it knowing her mum had said no. I think the mum took the salon to court for performing the service on a person under 16 but they settled out of court so no precedent was set.

It can be a minefield!

The fact is that if you colour a childs hair, statistically they are more likely to develop an allergy to certain dyes.

If there is any reaction then you would be liable as any EU colour will say over 16's only.. use your judgment and common sense..

No one under 16! Your not insured to do so if something went wrong the manufactures wouldn’t back you up and also there hair is still maturing don’t ruin there hair at such a young age

Wow that's so interesting to read. All of the salons ive worked in have all coloured under 16s.
Ive always done so too, reading more into this now as im going mobile so I really don't want to step over the line.

Just another question, Do you do highlights on under 16s? Or literally no colour at all?

thanks

Have you got insurance? This has been the case for around 10 years - no colour at all
