Hello everyone! I am new to this site but so glad I have found this forum for some advice and general geekiness! :)

I have long black hair, quite fine. When I was younger I often experimented with highlights and different colours. After a bad experience when a hairdresser used bleach in my hair resulting in it going that horrible orangey colour I didnt colour my hair for 7 years!

Anyway, I finally decided to get some ombre done this year and a 4 months ago I had a dark browny red colour put in. It was very subtle so I went back a few weeks ago to have it changed. I wanted a carmel/toffee colour ombre and the hairdresser I went to was very good. He used a highlighter he said to lift the colour of the previous dye and then put a toner over it. I was very happy with the result but after going on holiday last week the colour changed due to the sun and sea / pool water!

It went a bit of a brassy colour which I didnt like so I went back to my stylist to fix it. He put a brown toner over it which calmed down that brassiness and warmth but now i feel it is too dark and you can't really see the ombre anymore because my original hair colour is black.

I dont want to go back to my hairdresser as I think hes probably getting fed up with me now and I can't afford to spend any more on it lol.

My question is how can I make the toner fade so it can be a bit lighter ? I've read online that anti dandruff shampoo and lemon juice can help but I am a bit of a wuss and a novice lol, so im scared I will ruin it! :(

Thanks for taking the time to read my rant lol. Any advice please would be much appreciated :)

It sounds like you should just let the toner wash out a bit to soften it, don't bother with using head and shoulders, just rinse you hair for longer if you want the colour to fade quicker.

If you want a faster fix then a colourist can help you, but if it only needs slightly fading then plain old H20 should do the trick! If you are a beauty pro and can get hold of Malibu Crystal Gel, it is also a good alternative to lifting out toners without using stronger chemical processes.

If you are in South London come see me for your next ombre :p
