Hi all,
I have been offtered a nail station in a very very good hair and beauty salon, the other tech there is very busy and can't take on any more clients so is turning away buisness, i know her quite well and she say's i'll make the £240 per month rent easily... And she will suport me if i need any help/ reasurance ( she also rents there so has no financial gain from this or by me taking the rental) so i quite believe it to be as good an offer as she says it is ( but still i feel it cud be too good to be TRUE)
I have been doing gels for nearly a year and acrylics a few months, im taking around 2hrs to do full sets and infills and most sets are fine with little lifting and the odd breakage... But there are two familly members that I really struggle with "/ breakages lifting the lot.... My own nails last very well. really im just nervous if i do it and im not ready I'll make myself a bad name but if don't do it soon I never will and the more nails I do the better I'll become!

Thanks for all and any advice in advance kayleigh

I'm in the same situation.. Been offered a room but so worried I'm not going to profit out of it.. It's daunting.. Know how u feel..x

Another thing is im going to need child care also "/ so if goes wrong id be do out of pocket...
I really want to say yes as I know this is fast becoming one of the best salons in our area and it has such a fab rep, my husband is really excited for me and is urging me to snap the offer up which is encouraging :)

Hope some1 pops up with so wise words for us shortly "/ xxx

Yes I have children to, mine r at school but there is half terms etc that I need to find child care.. I've been looking at 2 days, one during school hours and the other a full day till 8 :-/ I have also been offered a commission split instead of a rental, have u thought about asking if u can do that to c how u get on? Once your client base has picked up it will benefit to do a rental.. Yes hope someone helps haha..x

I think you should say yes it's a great opportunity especially with the lady you know saying she will support and help you, you can only get better and it's a good thing to get thrown into the deep end in my opinion, you will gain experience and you will find your nails improve dramatically over afew weeks, it doesn't matter how long you take I'm sure people would like a good set of nails with time and care being taken to do them than a crap set that was rushed, and overtime you will become quicker at them anyway, you can only try, if you didn't take the opportunity you will probably be thinking what if in the months to come so I say go for it :) x

I really don't want to do commission based as things can get awkward from what I have read on here, not really you own boss. I plan to work full 5 days so I don't miss an opportunity to bag a client and when im not busy maybe the hairdressers can use me to wash hair. Make tea or man the reception for them as I know I'll be doing for nothing but its better than being bored and looks better to potential clients than sitting at an empty desk!

Thanks for your encouragement I think im 90% sure I'll go for it :D xxx

Have you decided if a new client comes in and two nail techs are not doing anything, who gets the client? How long does it take the other tech to do infills or full sets? When she says she is turning clients away, ask on average how many, these will be your potential clients and if she could be exaggerating saying we always turn people away this could be anything from 1 client to 20 clients, you might be able to work out better if it will be worth your while. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

The other nail tech is far to busy with nearly all clients being long standing loyal clients. She doesn't want anymore clients because she has too many already... She also said they turn away at least enough to cover the rental plus more and obviously I would do advertising etc to make people aware im there and maybe even (depending on price) a local paper ad too! Xx

Sounds like she needs to get her own prem! But for you, sounds like a great opportunity. and £200 odd quid for rental sounds great if the salons really that busy. I pay more than double that and manage to make the money back easily, and I'm not always back to back everyday. As long as your friend/current nail technician or whatever you want to call it is being honest with you about the clients and the figures I would definitely go for it! Don't even worry about not being good enough, have confidence, take the bull by the horns and GO FOR IT!! When I first started renting the nail bar where I'm at, there were no clients at all, I started from scratch and it built up very quickly as it's a service in demand. I would consider the fact that there is already a small client base waiting there for you as a brilliant start and will give your business the small boost that it needs to get going. The only thing I would be wary of is the fact there will be two of you, will you be two separate businesses or working together? And as someone else said, if there is a client and you are both free, how will you decide who gets the client? It could potentially cause a lot of conflict. I've never come across a salon with two nail techs working separately so I'm unsure how it would work. This is something you would need to consider. Good luck to you in whatever you decide.

Thank you I will have another talk with her, as even though she is busy she cud get a cancellation I suppose, and im not sure what we'd do in that case....

And thanks you all for the good luck you've sent.

Kayleigh xx
