Hi,

I have a problem: I've always had very straight nails which were really easy to grow long, but this year it looks like my nailbed is getting wider at the top and the nails change shape. :(

Here's a crude illustration:

The left one is how it used to be. But the right one is how it is now. The nailbed is dry at the top and the white part of the nail that's supposed to be on top, has also moved down in the corners a little. And it's just impossible to grow a longer nail without filing A LOT. But I'm afraid to do it, because I did get a lot of manicures this year, and I have a feeling that maybe the filing of the edges very close to the nailbed made the nail sort of rise up and separate from the nailbed a little? Or just damaged it?

Has anyone dealt with something like that before? Is it reversible?

I'd be very grateful for your help.

Heya!
I had/have the same problem!
I don't know if you will get an email saying that someone has replied but if Not, hopefully this helps others :D
What is happening to your nails is the same as an in growing toe nail, the only difference is that instead of curling it's stayingflat.
NOW. here's what you do;
Cut a V shape into the nail! Doesn't have to be wide or deep, just enough that you can see it's a V. As your nail grows it will try to close the gap, this will stop your nails growing wider and eventually they will go back to normal :D
It will take some time but nothing worth while was easy :D
Hope this helps!! :D
P.s. this is commonly caused by biting your nails
