Hi there

Just a quick question, I am going to be doing a 4 day VTCT nail course which covers manicure, pedicure and nail extensions (acrylic). I am hoping to be able to start my own mobile nail business, am I being unrealistic or is this enough training to get started. I have opted for this course because the college courses are only once a week for 6 months to a year and would like to start working asap. Also the intake for goverment courses was in September and I have missed this. I will have to complete at least 10 clients on each system before I qualify with the 4 day VTCT course and am a bit worried about getting models to work on. Do all you expert nail geeks out there feel that I will have a chance at getting into business as this course if very expensive....

Hope to here from you all

Cheers Emma

Hun if I were you I'd ring Creative Nail Academy in Leeds to find your nearest centre ( (look under links on site and disributors to find the number) they do a four day foundation course which is excellent starting block for you...10 clients on each system will take some doing I would of thought how long do you get to complete this?

I did a VTCT course and it lasted 8 months and this was after I had done my Foundation Course with Star Nails....out of curiousity how much is the course?

Hi Emma

I'd be really interested to know where the course is being held? VTCT courses should take much longer than this so I wonder who is saying it can be done in 4 days.

I'm afraid this is much too short a time to learn and then start working. Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear  Do a search on courses or training as there have been so many recommendations here.

If you don't want to broadcast the name of the course in a post, please PM me. :p

Hi Emma - I really don't want to be negative but I'm afraid this is similar to what I did 18 months ago and in my opinion no, it isn't nearly enough experience or knowledge to start a mobile nails business straight away.

I am now doing a VTCT NVQ course at my local college which is taking me around a year to do mani/pedi and nail extensions, but to proper professional standards, and with a nationally recognised qualification at the end of it. I know how you must want to get going asap and so do I, but if you merely do a four day course I bet you won't feel half as 'qualified' as you'd like to. I know I didn't after mine. Only advice I could offer you would be to check out your local college - I know the college I go to has a new course starting in February which covers manicure and nail extensions in about 20 weeks - plus it means you get loads of practice on your fellow students and your tutor (hopefully) will be able to answer the myriad of questions you'll think of along the way.

Anyway, enough of me ranting on, good luck with whatever you decide, this is just my opinion. Let us know what you decide! xxx
