Nail split vertically, what should I do?

Hey guys I'm not sure what to do for this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! What causes this to happen and how can it be fixed?

I'd suggest a visit to a podiatrist or chiropodist for proper diagnosis but probably down to ill fitting shoes
