I have been reading a lot of blogs and recearching training to become a nail technician. im an absolute beginner (I do my own nails but reallistcally thats hardly experience is it?) I am 31 years old and have no experience in the beauty industry at all. I am a very driven, hardworking and dedicated individual and i really want to do this. Im not working many hours at the minute and im quite willing to jack that in to start work at a salon that would hopefully give me the required training and experience.

I have read that the 4/5 day courses are rubbish and dont even scratch the surface of the craft and i understand that totally. I understand that NSI only operate in Manchester and im from Derbyshire

I need a starting block!

Like i said, im 31 years old, which may be considered 'too old' to start as an apprentice. or maybe the funding is unavailable to me because of my age.

I dont want to waste any unnecassary time or money as im not getting younger.

do salons take on 'mature students' as a rule?
What diplomas/NVQs courses are an absolute must?
Are there recomended colleges in Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire?

Like i said, i have been researching but cant find the answers to the above.

any replies are much appreciated

(this is my first ever post ever btw, hope ive done it right! :s)
