Only thing i would say is...Too much pre blending and you can have problems fitting the tip...becouse you will have made the well thinner, when applying the tip the ears are not so ridged and can spread out....if that makes sense.

I NEVER pre-tailor, the tips are designed to be a certain shape and pre-tailoring (particularly thinning them down) tends to make them "splay", rather than grip the sidewalls. I prefer to use different styles ( I actually use 5 different tips).

I dont think im explaining this too well, please excuse me, I am only taking down the size of the well.......

I was wondering why the make the well so large if we have to file it down, i do not experience any problems with the sidewalls and do not 'thin the tips'..

Hope this makes more sense.

As far as i know the contact area is to provide some reinforcement to venerable areas of the natural nail...some nails require a full/semi full well....I have had clients with very low sidewalls...(self filing) and so have needed the well area to reconstruct the sides of the nail.
