Just had my nails done yesterday, and i have to say, i am not feeling happy!

I went to a local beauty salon, that i thought would be decent, as she had done training in several different treatments, massage, eyelash extensions, etc... So i thought it was all quite professional, her price list info had all different company names she had trained with, and I saw that for nails it was Ibd, i hadn't heard of them but looked up on internet and it looked ok...

Anyway, she got to doing my nails, and when filing, prepping and buffing the nail, she cut MOST of my fingers, on the sidewalls, when going over the nail, there was quite a bit of blood coming out onto the nails, she said nothing and i was wondering is this normal?! It was really quite hurting but I never said anything but she obviously saw the blood, probably didn't want to bring my attention to the fact she was doing a bad job. All she said at one point was that I had dry cuticles. They're really quite sore now

Also, she seems to have got quite a bit of glue stuck down the sidewalls, when i touch the skin around the nail, i can feel its stuck

What does everyone think about this? Is it normal? I don't want to go back there, and will have to get these removed at some point, but definitely not with her, as would be worried about being shredded to pieces again!!

Its mainly the sidewalls that are cut, not so much cuticles, its at the sides of the nails

Oh lovey, I am so sorry you had a bad experience. No it is not normal, why didn't you say anything to her. How is she going to know she is hurting you if you dont say. I am not saying that you can't complain now, you should just have complained sooner and you would not be in pain now.

We are taught never to cut living tissue, and that is where the blood comes from. We do clip cuticles but only the dead bits that don't bleed. The glue application should also be a neat and clean job, there should really not be any on the skin, accidents happen sometimes but it can be removed and tidied up before you leave.

Saying all that though, the burning question is are you happy with the nails? If she did beautiful nails but was a bit heavy handed with the prep, I would go back and just ask her to be careful as last time they did bleed and hurt a bit. I am sure she will be more careful, the problem us nail tech have is that we cant feel what you are feeling, you need to tell us. We do try to be careful but do need your feedback too, if I was you I would go there today and show her, ask her if she could just get rid of the glue for you as it is a little uncomfortable and ask if she could let you have a bit of cuticle oil to soothe the cuticles. I am sure she would appreciate the fact that you came back to her rather than telling everyone you know how bad the experience was without letting her redeem herself.

Good luck, and let us know how it went. Be brave and get it sorted

Sorry, but I have to disagree with the above advice about returning to the original salon. The rest of the advice is sound.

No competent therapist would cause bleeding to the nail bed or surrounding tissue and for the therapist/technician to not be aware of it or apologise, is quite shocking.

I do agree that you should have spoken up at the time, if only to end the torture.

Personally, I wouldn't return to the salon but would go somewhere else. This time, find somewhere that has been personally recommended to you, if possible. Someone could be using the best equipment and products but that doesn't automatically make them a good nail technician/therapist.

I hope your nails get better soon. In the meantime, treat yourself to some good quality cuticle oil and use it at least twice daily.

Haircutz, I do agree that it would be better not to return but I do think that the original technician needs to see what she has done, it is entirely up to the OP to decide if she wants to return there. I am in two minds though, if it is conveniently located for the client and the tech knows where she went wrong,, and the nails are gorgeous..maybe go back once more and see, speak up the minute anything does not feel right. Or go elsewhere and hope they are better.

I agree with your advice 100% when you say to go somewhere that has been recommended by a friend or family.
One thing though, if you go to someone recommended, have a look at their nails first. If you think they look good, go as soon as you can, if they look horrible please keep looking for someone who does nails you like the look of.

I say this because I have recently seen two different clients, both over the moon with their nails, highly recommended the salon and nail technicians ( different one for each client) and I could not believe that a tech could charge money for those nails. I would be mortified.I said nothing and complimented the color and the glittery bits, then moved on and did their spray tans. Anyway the point of my story is, it seems hard to find a good nail tech out there, so keep shopping around, ask where people had their nails done if you see ones you like the look of.

Good luck I hope you find a good technician that you can trust and enjoy the experience rather than endure torture. Aaargh
