There's always one, right? There's always one person, whether you are on the tube, the bus, in a cinema, at a hair salon or having your nails done, that forgets there are other people in the world with feelings, a sense of smell, ears that work etc., and manages to ruin your day.

In the cinema, the worst possible thing you can do is, obviously, leave your phone on. Actually, scratch that, the worst thing you can do is answer the phone you've left on and proceed to have a conversation (true story). On public transport social faux pas include overly loud music (if I can sing along to your music as it streams out of your headphone dude, you're playing it too loudly), smelly food, or bad personal hygiene.

Unfortunately these things are not uncommon and it got me thinking...what are the real no-nos when it comes to the nail salon? What unthinkable things do clients do? Talk on the phone and ignore your very existence while you make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? Eat a drippy, gooey burrito with the one hand you don't have hold of?

As Christmas looms, and your chairs get busiers and clients get more harassed...there are bound to be some social faux pas in your salon. Tell us about them!

Until then...geek on!

Ooh can't wait to see the answers to this!

My clients are very well behaved so not much from me unfortunately, except when some bring in small children & babies & feed them & have to move them all during the appointment it makes it very hard to finish & nice set, plus it should be a de stress time for the mam!

People who are still on their phone when you come to do the consultation.

People who come up to you to ask a question just as you are introducing yourself to your next client.

People who bang on about what they are used to from their other therapist in a way that is derogatory to you.

People who make stuff up to get refunds.

Thankfully, I am pleased to say that although it can happen often enough, the majority of people are ok :)

I have people texting with thier free hand quite often.

I once had a client pick up my nail file during an assessment at college n start filing her tips while i trimmed the fibre glass strips!! I felt like bopping her on the nose with it lol i had already shaped them to her required length etc! Thankfully my tutor didnt see and the rest of the service went without incident.

Yes being on the phone really gets me.

But, and i know if you've got a runny nose then it needs wiping, but clients blowing their nose on a tissue just after you've cured a layer of Shellac. . . Damn those fuzzies!

I had a client other day that proceeded to eat a yoghurt while I was trying to do enhancements on her and shellac and when she had finished she put the empty pot and spoon on top of my CND lamp and had yoghurt all over her fingers , then to top it off she said "oh sorry I'm going to have to fart" I could've gagged

Clients who want to go for a smoke half way through a service. Really!! Just wait.

Showing up anytime later than 5 minutes without any notice.
Eating during any service involving the hands.
Looking at and touching the nail plate of the free hand after every little step.
Texting during service involving hands.
Touching any implements (files, nippers, clippers, ect).
Touching during any treatment involving UV curing.
Doing the "bird flap arms" to "help" polish dry only to ding it on something and needing to have it repainted.
Leaving an insulting tip such as a 2p coin. (Yes... this has happened. I would've been happier with no tip.)

Clients who bring children with them that are very badly behaved, then continue to wponce asked not too. I have 3 children, they knew if I said Stop it they did!

clients who insepect/check every single nail at every single stage! I feel like handing them the file, polish or whatever and telling them to do it themselves!!!

Lateness and unruley children bug me. Mostly the lateness

This didn't happen to me, but one of my instructors from beauty school:

She was performing a basic acrylic set on a client when the client said she needed to use the restroom. My instructor had gotten to an okay stopping point and allowed her to pop up and go. The client was gone for a few minutes and came back (my instructor noticed the client did NOT wash her hands  ). The client sits down and plops her hands back onto the table. My instructor picks up a hand and notices a little...excrement under one nail. The client notices and casually wipes the nail on the towel on the table and waits expectantly to my instructor to finish. My instructor just like, gaped at her for a minute, then made her go wash her hands.

Seriously--some people. ^
