Hi guys ive got a new client in later on, and she has been going to a hairsalon that bleach her hair then puts an 8/0 over it all to tone it down.

she is a natural base inbetween 5 and 6, would it not be easier to just put an 8/1 on her roots and then comb through after development time??

Help please , i dont do many colours but this has messed my head up abit lol :lick:

It may have been they did this for 2 reasons, she had colour on her hair and wanted to break it up or she really wanted that colour and it wouldnt of lifted so well without being bleached, personally I stick with what the old salon do for the first time unless it something ridiculous, just because you don't know what her hair is like yet to colour. Then see how it is and maybe change method next time

I'd stick to what you know best, use your own judgement and don't just follow what someone else did. Maybe she meant they use it as a toner, is her hair actually a level 8? The consultation here is key :)

her hair is a base between 5 and 6, so her previous stylist bleached her regrowth to a yellow tone then put an 8/0 or an 8/1 over that and refreshed the ends.

but if i put an 8/1 with 30vol, would it lift?

I don't understand why anyone would bleach from a 5-6 natural hair to yellow blonde then tone down to an 8.....especially just for roots :-S does your client have a lot of red in her hair naturally? Also what Color brand do you use? I could understand if the desired result was lighter than an 8, say a 9 or 10 and wanted a very clean or cool blonde if a high lift wouldn't do it. Does the Color brand you use have different ash tones such as green, blue??

Hi craig! No she doesn't have any red tones, slightly gold. I use wella kp. I got a sec op from one of my colleagues and they said as she has had it done in this way before then to do it again, bleach it and tone it to be safe. I didn't want to Stick an 8/1 on her regrowth for it to not take. I'm not one for doing colours really.

Anyway I bleached it and toned with an 8/1, and it came out fine, she was happy with it. But might just slap it straight on next time lol.

Thanx for the help geeks x :D

Why don't you take a test cutting and put the 8/1 on a see what happens?
There must be a reason for her previous stylist to bleach and tone it, surely no one would use bleach to go up a couple of shades on virgin hair when there's a better alternative. x
