About as far South as you can get!
Hi guys,

I'm almost there with my NVQ 2 Ladies and Barbering, just a couple more exams and some assessments to get and I'm done. The thing is, I want more! I want to be the best I can, and although the college has given me the basics, I feel I need more. I am trying to get into salons in my area, but no-one seems interested in taking me on as an employee, they just want me to rent a chair and I'm not ready for this yet.

Would anyone be able to recommend and advanced cutting and/or colouring course? I'm in the South of England. I have looked a Tigi as there is an academy near me, but wanted to hear any recommendations.

Many thanks

xx

Hello, im not sure about the tigi courses. But wella and Loreal seem to be what most recomend. I would try my hardest to get into a salon if I were you. Try and explain to them you want to be a junior, that you are quailfied but are willing to go back to basics and learn it their way. That you are willing to do sweeping shampooing etc. You will learn so much and they will have training days/evenings in a salon. You will be surprised how much you learn just from being in the salon environmnet. Maby go round and ask if you can have a chat and leave your number with some salons, then if they decide they need someone to help out they will ring you. xxx

As Sarah Poppy24 has said the Wella and the L'oreal are really good for training .

You might also want to look at the Matrix courses through Capitals hair and Beauty in the south think its Croydon they do a Methodology of cutting course that is aimed at stylists just starting out on the salon floor and confidence building . Two days ..

Hope this helps good luck

Thanks girls, I'll look into those.

I have had salon experience when I was an apprentice back in 2008/09 but was made 'redundant'. I'm 38 nearly and I think some salons are taken aback when I say I wantto bea junior. The owners/managers in lot of the salons I've been to are younger than me, so even though I'm not really experienced I think they feel intimidated by me.

I will persevere though, I want it enough, and if I can get some advanced courses under my belt then hopefully that will help too.

Thanks again. xx
