Okay so I have just started at a new salon....

I want to know how to tell them they need a lot of new products and equipment.
I looked at their Dermalogica professional products and one of the had the date 2008 on them and knowing they go out of date in 2 years that makes them 4 years over that by now.... they one of them is soo old its called a new name now one of the med-bac ones... think it was called anti-bac or something I was too shocked to remember.... and I haven't even seen a steriliser anywhere and only one set of sponges.... Now there is a lot more I could go on about but being the only therapist there I've got a lot to deal with and post about it when i find out. as I've only been there 2 days and I'm horrified... I can't believe the last therapist had left it in such a state, with tint stains in the skin and trolleys ext. Im even offering to come in on my day off to sort it out...

Sooo please help me with what to say to get them to buy new products that are in date and a steriliser. PLEASE! :Scared:

To be honest if you want to bring it up- be prepared to hear that they are staying and being used. After all you are criticising the way the business is run. If they won't change it be prepared to leave.

Okay thank you, its supposed to be a 5 star salon so I was really shocked that its like that. Big day Monday is going to be then.

I was in a very similar situation to yourself a few years back. I was employed as a therapist by a lady (whom was trained and owned the salon) but didn't want to work as much, so I pretty much ran the 'shop'.

I had my interview there and on the whole it looked, professional, clean etc. although I did note at the time that she could use some new carpets. I started on a Monday and had a full day of appointments. And as I was working through the various treatments I realised how much of a sh*t tip it was!

In the end, I wrote everything down! Things that needed cleaning.
What needed replacing.
What needed updating.
What products were out of date etc.

We sat down and I explained that for me to work to my full ability there had to be changes. She agreed and thankfully it was uphill from there!

I think because it was written down it showed that I had out true thought into what had to be done. I hope this helped, good luck!! X

I have been in the same position many moons ago, just take a deep breath and gage how you think the boss will respond to changes and being told their salon is not up to par.
A fresh pair of eyes from someone dedicated to the salon I would love it as a business owner.

I think the out of date products should be easy to get them to replace - push the insurance angle, what if someone has a reaction to them?!?

I would use the "did you know your last therapist hadn't replaced out of date items? and do you know where the steraliser is as I can't find it and we will need a new one if the last therapist has broken or lost it" bla bla bla.

It is less threatening to them if you are not directing the accusation at them (although I have little doubt they know exactly whats going on) and gives them a chance to feel like they saved face. Good luck
