I have a college interview tomorrow for beauty therapy it really is something I’ve always wanted to do and I really do have a passion for beauty! I am 21 in November which I'm a little worried about age but i guess that is still young. But I am most worried about making friends and getting on with the other girls. I am pretty easy to get along with but a little shy and also never really been one of the popular girls at school. I've heard girls in beauty therapy courses can be quite mean as most the girls will be stunning and popular (so I've heard) will I fit in?
Also what shall I wear to the interview? Questions they may ask?
Thanks :)

21 is nothing, when I trained we had a lady in her 50's, whom I got on very well with (all my friends tend to be older than me!). People mature at different ages, so whilst it is true there will be an element of childish behaviour, and it is certainly that true that groups composed entirely of a single sex groups bring their own issues, the odds are there will be at least one who is mature and normal!

I am 33 and have only just gone into the Beauty Industry. I will be qualified next year.

Your a spring chicken my dear and will have many many years in the industry.

Good luck!

xx

I started my NVQ when I was 25, or maybe even 26, I forget now. The oldest ladies in my class were in their 50s - there were a few of them!

You're never too old if it's what you want!

I read your question with interest. I trained at 38, and wasn't the oldest in my class. I loved every minute of it! My daughter is currently training and is 20. She has found that a lot of the girls are there to continue getting their benefits and aren't really interested in the course which can be annoying, but as I pointed out, they are your competition when you've qualified, so learn, learn, learn. When I trained, the tutor showed us how to fold towels. My friend stood there effing and blinding saying "I didn't come here to learn how to fold towels". Interestingly, some years ago I visited her salon and her towels were all over the place - mine (naturally) are immaculate. I think clients notice EVERYTHING so I'm pleased that I learnt a uniform way to fold my towels which I taught my daughters - my husband is beyond help lol!!!

21 is not old, and I think colleges do take into consideration your age etc when they put you into teaching groups (at least mine did)

Some people on the course may be straight out of school, they may well have an attitude problem, some may turn out to be your best friends either way look at it this way; you are older and wiser and are you really going to let the potential silly little girls ruin your future?

Go for it! Alternatively, you could do a part-time/evening course which can be aimed at 'older' learners.

Good luck x

Thanks everyone :)

Honestly feel a lot more confident about it now!

Really excited to get started :)

Thanks again x
