Hello all!
So where do I start? Well, I graduated Cosmo school and got my license back in April. Initially I applied and interviewed for a few corporate salons but I didn't feel it was the right fit.
Although I'm a newbie, I don't feel comfortable leaving my office job to make minimum wage plus tips doing a high price service which I know would happen had I gone to a chain salon environment.
Since then, I have been renting booth space part time at a nearby salon and trying to build clientele. The salon doesn't have any walk in whatsoever and I've been promoting myself and marketing with every strategy I can think of.
I have one opportunity to work at a new salon that's commission based and I also have another salon owner interested in me renting at her shop where there are many walk ins.
I'm so torn. I'm not sure if I should keep struggling and hustling up the few clients I have at the current shop, go to the commission only salon where I would be working with mostly Caucasian hair which is not what I specialize in ( I prefer working with natural hair or curly textured and sew in Extensions) OR rent space from the owner who has "guaranteed" clientele but a much higher booth rent.
At first it seemed as though the commission salon would Be bomb but the owner wants the stylist to hustle for the salon and build the salons clientele so it would be similar to what I'm doing on my own.
I'm so pressed and I don't want to throw in the towel and I really want to be my own boss. That's why I went to Cosmo school and left my University.
Sorry for the rambling. Lol
