Hello everyone
I am new to this site so still getting use to it!!

First of all I qualified 4 years ago. I am nvq1 2 and 3 trained! ... I decided I want to get back into my beauty and make a real career of this.. so I started doing manicures and pedicures st home. I've now started working in a salon renting a chair the people I work for don't use proper brands of gel like gellux or cnd they use blue sky, cco, gdi. Ect

I thought to start off with I'd buy some to use at home but they haven't been lasting my clients I feel I'm not been professional by using them so all the colours I've bought I think I'm going to just use on myself.
But when clients book in with me at the salon I'm using them brands anyway because that's all that's in the salon but I don't feel I'm giving them a good service. I feel a bit stuck at the minute.

I've gone back to college for some refresher courses which will help boost my confidence.

I've also booked someone in for an eyebrow shape she wants a complete re style and I am so nervous!! Haven't done them in years plus when I first qualified I didn't do much with beauty then because my nerves got the better of me.

I want to do this now I am going on a gelllux course and so be buying all the products next month so I can offer that treatment at home.

What do you guys reckon I should do?? I feel stuck and useless and I need some advice.
Do I stay at the salon and use there products? But I don't feel like a professional therapist, but I will be gaining confidence with clients...

Help.

Thankyou

hi first of all ,just do the treatments that you feel confident in ,if that's nails then do nails hands ,feet anything practice on friends ,family etc . Ask friends or family if you can do their eyebrows before your client the more you do the better you will be once you have done your gellux course practice practice practice , that's the only way. Little steps ,don't try to do everything all at once and doing the refresher courses are really good. Maybe ask the salon if they would be willing to get different products in or if you are self employed you can take your own in .
Good luck

If you're renting and self employed, can you not provide tour own products? Not sure whether you're on a flat weekly rent basis or say a 60/40% split.

As for eyebrows, just practice practice practice. Take your time and don't rush otherwise you'll get yourself flustered and will panic. Have faith in the fact you are qualified and the client has chosen you to carry out their treatment

Thank you guys. I'm just getting myself in a flap I think I am trying to do too much all at once.. practice practice practice is what I need to do.. while practicing though should I charge a low rate just so I can buy more stock??.
I'm going to get my course done in gellux and offer that from then on..
The course is November so should I just offer waxing and massage for now?? Because everyone wants gel on and I don't want to get into that conversation with the clients..
The lady I'm doing next week her eyebrows should I tell her I'm nervous? I'm just so scared of messing up I'm actually loosing sleep over this!.

hi I would not say that you are nervous she needs to feel confident that you are a good therapists , practice on some friends when you get to do hers you will be fine. Being self employed you are more than entitled to use your own products.

No don't tell her you're nervous. She's chosen you for a reason.
What are you most nervous about? Shaping and measuring the brow or tinting? Maybe we can give you some hel

Sorry just re read and saw it's a reshape appointment.

I'd break it down into manageable chunks. So first I'd measure each brow thoroughly. Then shape small sections at a time. I normally start in the middle then move to the outer edges. Once I have my 'start and finish' points, I then work on shaping the middle and forming a natural arch. I find it easier to do the arch last as I can balance it with the full width of the brow. God I hope I'm making sense!
Keep checking how it's looking. Then move into the next section etc etc. Try not to see a pair of messy brows and wonder what the heck you're going to do with them, instead just focus on smaller areas and it should be less daunting
