I’m used to using the goldwell line. But want to switch to wella. Client hair is natural level 4. Wanting to match natural hair color level 4.5 probably dark rich brown, ala Kim Kardashian. Do I just use a 4/0 + 5/0 or do I need to add a tone? Client wants hair to appear natural. I heard you’re not suppose to use the 0s alone. If colored too light clients hair has orangish tone but client dislikes ash color. clients hair is also 25% grey and grey us concentrated on the sides of the head by ears.

To create the depth and shine Kim K has, I would be looking at 4/07 on the roots where its natural and grey. Then on the mid lengths and ends I'd be suing colour touch 4/71

How light are the warmer ends?

Right now her ends were done in goldwell level 5. Slightly lighter than roots but client hasn’t colored hair during pregnancy so there is about 5” of natural growth from scalp.

I also heard Wellas colors are darker is this true? I was assuming to use Koleston perfect.

Koleston perfect is a permanent tint so not necessarily the best choice for depositing colour l. That's why I'd use koleston on the roots and colour touch on the ends. You could even just use colour touch all the way through.

Sorry I don’t understand I’ve always used permanent color for clients with grey and then kept up the roots. What is the advantage of using color touch if it will wash out? Are you saying Koleston is too harsh!

A permanent tint is ideal if you're lifting or covering more than 50% white. If you're not doing either of these things then you don't need a permanent tint. Anything you apply over prelightened hair is never really permanent, it will always fade out. Koleston is by no means harsh, but colour touch is what I would opt for in this situation. If you feel more comfortable with using koleston perfect then you'd have to use the 1.9% on the mid lengths and ends.

Ok thanks I will try it. Is this the best /one of the best lines in terms of shine and color? I want something that won’t make coarse hair more coarse.

I'd opt for colour touch then. It'll shine like a bottle and feel so soft. It's extremely gentle and is formulated with moisturisers etc to keep the hair in a healthier state. Nicer, smoother application too.
