I had been asked to provide proof of where I thought comments were a bit rude and I did. Perhaps this should have been asked in a PM but it wasn't so I thought it was OK to post them here, especially when a couple of people had asked for examples.

It would take much too long to list instances where things are dealt with rather harshly. They are all on this website.

And as for my use of the word "gracefully" - why attack me on that? Gracefully does not only pertain to dancing. To handle a situation gracefully is to handle it with grace. Simple. And also not the issue here. I've proven my point here even though I will get attacked for saying so. I do believe this site is a wonderful asset for aspiring nail techs and perhaps will not be the site of choice for many others due to the perceptions of attitudes. It's not for everyone and that's OK.

OK it appears to be my turn!!!! :)
I'm never rude...you obviously don't know me......I've never attacked anyone...well not on a website anyways:lol:
....thanks I'm so glad it's ok:rolleyes:

BTW feel free to PM me at any time.

The choices of examples of 'rudeness' have been replied to, and I have nothing to add there.
Well... I could  actually... but won't bother.

However, WHAT I FIND MOST INTERESTING... is that you (stilts) chose to ignore some VERY valid points that I made with regards to whom we choose to respond to, and whom we choose to give information to AND the fact that this is all done for FREE!!!

Nor have you responded to the fact that you've been rude with your comments.... and yet you want an apology/explanation from US????

This, I find very telling indeed.

That's a second set of links I cant find a problem with, not least because in the second lot the point of the topic was opinions. In the first batch if the opening poster didn't feel offended why use them as an example.

This will end up as a closed topic because some one decided to spoil it for a public spat that should have been taken to PM from the outset. What a shame.

I did find some posts that I believe were uncalled for:

I just don't agree that people should be treated like this. As in the case of the third link, this girl's work was unnecessarily picked apart and how can you NOT be defensive when someone comments on your work like that?

It's posts like that in which I think could have been handled more tactfully and gracefully.

I know that everyone here truly wants to help and it is much appreciated - you can tell by the many positive comments. There is a wealth of great info here and I am not ever denying that. I guess it's just the way certain posts are handled, that's all.

I just looked through all three of those posts. I don't see how geeg or any other geek was being rude, apart from the third one. The lady who was quoting it all as "geeg says" then having her two pennith seemed to be the rude one to me, fair enough "defending" herself but she seemed very argumentative and a bit nasty:rolleyes: might have been how I read it I guess.... but from what I can tell Geeg was merely saying how her own technique was different, where's the harm in that?

Also Geeg's comment about porn star nails tickled me lol :green:

Can me and my darling other half PLEASE have a link to the ear candling thread!? Its better than a soap opera this, kids are sleeping out and we've finished reading heat and closer.....

Enough already, back on track - original track that is!

I truly never asked for an apology as I know that would never happen ;) I could respond to your comments but I don't think anyone wants this to continue.

I started a while ago lurking and have always found this site extremely helpful as there are many talented and experienced techs here. And I truly think it's wonderful that this free site is available.

I just wish that some poster's comments were treated nicer! Those of you who have been longtime members here of course won't see when the little jabs come out or there is a rude or harsh comment. I actually would be the same way - it's hard to see when you've been part of a community for a long time.

I was trying to continue just looking at the posts without registering because I actually wasn't sure I wanted to start posting. But I registered and then right away happened on this thread and I couldn't hold it in. And I guess it was easy to continue once everyone else had replied.

I can't be the only one to have ever felt this way or noticed these things but that will not be thought about here and I actually can understand that.

Underlying how I feel about this issue is a definite appreciation for those on this site who give their time to make the title of Nail Professional one we all can use with pride.

If one person comes here and decides to follow the path of proper education rather then "bluff" it, well i think its worth all the help I can give...
No one is above learning more about this industry.. so in a sense we are all at one point or another going to ask a silly question.. I think posts like these make people afraid to ask, for fear of being thought stupid.. or thought untrained.. at the end of the day.. this place is TO HELP, we can pick and choose who we help.. but we should never judge some one when we know nothing about them..
I believe when suppliers step up and stop selling with out certificates of training then the industry, and many "bluffers" will be cleaned out.. I believe when selling Monomer on Ebay and the like becomes a thing of the past then again, we will see the mud settle.. BUT.. training and education SHOWS in the quality of work produced..

Hi All,

I just wanted to say as a 'Newbie' I have found this site addictive and VERY useful.

I have done my Diploma's at The Carlton Institute, have all my kit and Insurance in place. I am completing Home study then an assessment for my VTCT/IHBC.

I am practicing LOADS on friends, family and work collegues and take my New Beauty career very seriously and want to do my best.

I can appreciate the concerns that some will be freeloaders however I think if I came on this site before my training I would not have understood most of the threads or jargon to be able to do much with it!!! Please bare a thought for us genuine Newbies and how much you really help us and how we REALLY appreciate it.

As a Newbie I try to contribute where I can also so it is not all take take and as I gain more and more experience I will stay on here to help other Newbies and (hopefully) friends!!

I think everyones signature should have what stage they are at e.g. Student or what they have qualified in etc ???

Good luck all

No disrespect to anyone on this site, but I must be honest I don't know whether I, and others like me are welcome here or not.

I'm confused... Is this site aimed only at those who are qualified, who have spent alot of time, effort and money, and that actually work in the industry, or are people who are learning welcome to come here and post too?

Sometimes, reading through threads, I do feel like I am intruding upon something that is none of my business even though I have a keen interest in nails.

I would like to point out that since finding this site, I have learnt a great deal about the industry, and been inspired by some of the fantastic work I have seen. All in all, browsing around this site makes me even more determind to succeed and it's all thanks to it's members.

i agree lucy.
I'm only just qualified in level 2 and still training in nails.
And reading this is quite degrading and upsetting to be honest, i've learnt a lot from this site and i've also given other people usefull information just cos i havn't been qualified as long doesn't mean i don't know a few extra tips other people don't know. everyone learns little different nifty tips that other people sometimes don't learn.
i now feel like i don't want to give anyone any advice as i'm not good enough.

Why do you feel like you're not good enough? When the thread talks about "newbies bluffing" it is aimed at the untrained with no intention of training.

Don't feel you can't post, you have filled out your profile and people can see you are training so get out there and contribute and don't let latest negative comments on this thread cloud your judgment of this fantastic site or any of the other Geeks!

Come on guys!! It aint that hard is it?

2 questions ??

Are you a backyard Barbie who wants no trainig and to slide in under the radar of training and buy products from iligitimate sources? OR
Are you in training with a mind on a future career?

One is not welcome ... the other is. So stop being paranoid and get with the programme and be welcome here. It isn't so difficult is it?

To be honest i think this thread is running dry now

What i think is - if there is people who want to join this forum and 'bluff' and try and learn from this forum without any training then i could honestly put my life on it and say they wont learn a thing because there is no possible way you could learn to do a full set of nails just from reading bits and pieces and even if they do learn these people will never in a million years be as good as those who have done training.

Newbies if your here and you have trained thats great and fine your more than welcome here its a great place to be!! Or even if your new and your looking for some help and guidance of what training you should be doing thats also absoloutly fine this is what salon geek is for!

I honestly cant stress this enough if you have only just qulified it doesnt matter at all your still welcome here i only passed my gel nails on sunday and ive had nothing but support so please newbies who are trained or want to train dont be offended!!

But it is best to fill out your profile so everyone is aware of why you are here and what your all about its also nice for us to know what eachother do or intend to do etc

I truly honestly dont worry about those bluffers or those who dont want training it just makes me feel better about what i do!!

It is very important newbies are here and they have a big contribution to make.Whether it be with questions ,new techniques, ideas and keeping us up to date with whats going on in the training side of the industry and generally keeping the site going with fresh blood.
