Hi, I am currently doing the Next Step Beauty distance learning manicure, pedicure and gel polish course. I went to salon services today to sign up for a student trade card so that I could buy some gel polish and was told they didn't recognise the course and therefore wouldn't give me a card. I'm a bit concerned now that my course might not be properly accredited, just wondering if anyone has any experience with this? :)

I did my complete nail tech through them but went to the training days. Never had a problem and I have accounts in various places x

Hate to disappoint you but I'm pretty sure it's not fully accredited. If you read the description online, the certificate you get is a NSBi Award which is just a next step beauty award. To be fully accredited you need to go for an assessment day with them at one of their locations. I only know this because I was going to do the make up course distance learning then realised there's no real qualification in it it's best to do the more intense courses if you can to get more one-on-one training. Good luck x

I had issues getting a card with sallus until i had done my course days and got the confirmation email to say that i had attended.

They said until i had confirmation that i had attended they could only give me a temp card as there was no gurantee that i would attend or that it would go ahead until i had avtually been.

I have done the full course though not the distance learning and my review day is on october.

I know a few people that have had issues with sallys though they are really funny who they give the trade cards out to xxx

Yes you are right about the accreditation , you have to attend a review day for that but I have checked with both Beauty Guild and Babtac and their courses are fully accredited with them. I've also spoken with salon services customer service this morning who apologised for the local store refusing me and told me to go back and ask again and tell them to contact the main office if they still refuse to give me a card. Phew a bit less stressed about it all now. Thank you ladies for your input. I hope your review day goes well:)

Most distance learning courses are not accredited by a professional body and able to get insurance unless a classroom assessment day is taken as well. Also, I have know some Salon Services refuse people a card and then try and sell them one of their courses in order to get a card.

oh wow i nearly got all hysterical half way through this thread

phew for the mix up at your local sally.... i was dreading going to mine to apply only to be turned away and embarrassed :| at least i can rest easy now.
although Fiona on my enrolment email i have no address (mine) so they can check against a driving license ...was it the same for yours?
thank you

I looked into this a few months back as I wanted to add threading to my services. The distance learning courses are not insurable. You would have to pay the extra and attend the classes and reviews to be covered on insurance, so guess that's same thing with Sallys refusing. X

If anybody can get back to me I would be so grateful! I am a complete newbie to doing nails and have just been to do the acrylic course online with next step beauty. I am getting so worried now that I won’t be qualified even after doing this course. I am wanting to become self employed and do nails from home so would this mean that I couldn’t do that?

I mean just paid to do *
