Hi all, not sure how to word this but basically someone I used to work with now has a salon of her own. I noticed via her Facebook page the other day she is offering treatments she is not qualified to do and I'm concerned for her clients well being. Can someone please give me guidance on how to report her as they are fairly
Advanced treatments and I don't believe anyone in any business should be carrying out tasks they are not qualified to do. Many thanks.

Is it up to you to report her?

I don't know why you are worrying about her - unless she is unqualified but very good?

If she is unqualified and not very good her clients will leave her soon enough.

Save your valuable energy and brain power for your own business ... You shouldn't have time to worry about someone else's.

How do you know she's not qualified? Perhaps she's trained since you last saw / spoke to her? I'd definitely find out to be 100% sure before I thought about reporting her. I'm not sure I'd stick my oar in in this situation. Please don't take offence, but are you genuinely concerned about her clients or about her as competition? I might be wrong, but I wouldn't see it as my business to report her. Blimey, if I reported all the questionable beauticians in my area I wouldn't have time to run my business! ;) x

no, it's not up to me but she can can cause serious damage to her clients doing the treatments she is.
As I said earlier, it's not her I'm concerned about its her clients wellbeing and I know for a fact she is only level 2 qualified.

what treatments is she not qualified in???
Is there any chance shes got the qualifications in the time?
If she is doing advanced treatments as you say which can cause serious harm to someone if done wrong. Then I would personally report them.
I see where the others are coming from but it does take a long time to get the right training and qualifications and if were just going to let people do treatments unqualified the Beauty industry is going to turn to rubbish x

Skin peels, electrolysis, milia and skin tag removals. As Jessica said, it takes a long time to have all the correct training and to get the right qualifications and it's just frustrating that she wants to put her clients at risk by doing these treatments. Obviously there is a lot of competition in my area but I don't see her as competition in the slightest.

Hhhmm.... in that case I'd be tempted to go to her salon and have a conversation about the treatments she's offering. Is it definitely HER carrying out the treatments or has she got qualified staff working for her? If you're that concerned ask her straight out and make a decision from there as to whether you need to report her. I'd be really surprised by anyone who had the front to start doing major cosmetic treatments with no training. Why would you?!! Or how would you?!

Someone please tell me you need to provide the correct level of certification to be able to train and purchase equipment and products for the treatments you mention?

I am unbelievable shocked that you would be able to offer these treatments without the training, equipment and insurance and I'd like to think companies who sell this equipment or lease, would want to see your qualifications as surely they should be liable as well ? I'm currently Wanting to offer these treatments and know I have 2 years of training left before I can .. (only level 2 qualified at the mo) ....before I can or would even allow myself to perform these treatments on a client .

As beauty is not a regulated industry I'm not sure who you'd be able to report her to. I'm not aware there is any legal requirement to hold a qualification to offer beauty treatments. At best you might be able to report her to the local council in case she isn't registered for using needles in a work place, but it's not all councils that even require that.

If she's doing electrolysis then she should have a licence from the council. She's sticking a needle in someone's face, any skin piercing needs a "special treatments licence" so if you're unsure, ring the local council to see if she's registered

Edit - sorry Martin just seen you already mentioned that

Your colleague is more than likely renting out a room to a more advanced therapist.

Who would you report her to if this was the case??

We've already told you, the local council. If she has no licence, they'll go after her to either purchase one after a room inspection or stop her.

But as Red star stated, she may of rented a room out to someone

You sure this isn't a bit of sour grapes kicking in?
Because at the end of the day it's her business, her clients will soon suss and leave if she's not up to scratch.
Maybe you should just concentrate on your work rather than worrying about what others are doing and keep off her Facebook page If what she's doing is bothering you.

Keep your own powder dry. I am vaguely aware of what goes on around me and I'm fairly sure that there is a salon near me that offers treatments they're not totally qualified in but as I've had 3 of their clients come to me in recent weeks I'm not too bothered.

I would tread very carefully if I were you. What if you were wrong?

Why get involved? I know we all care passionately about what we do..but 'shopping' other people who might not have the standard of qualification we would like to see nationally is not the thing to do.
As has been said, she may be renting the room out, she may have a very dodgy qual with no insurance..but just do what you do well and you may see some of her unhappy clients trickle through your door!
Did you know that as an acupuncturist I can have competition from anyone? That's right, anyone can buy a packet of needles, and call themselves and 'acupuncturist' and start sticking them in people!!! The only thing they actually need is a 'miscellaneous provisions licence for skin piercing' from the local council.
