i have heard theres a new nail nvq - does anyone know anything about it? i have an nvq level 2 in beauty as well as a couple of independant certificates in nail extensions...will it offer me anything new? and does anyone know where i cando one in the gloucestershire/ wiltshire area??

From how I have read all previous info, there is not a specific course for the new NVQ in a college. You will have to pay for individual courses for each unit, and then pay again to have your work assessed to prove your competency. This will therefore prove VERY expensive from start to finish and has personally put me off from taking it. I would love to be told I am completely wrong and there is an easier and cheaper way of doing it. It will only offer you anything new if you haven't already been on a course for any of the new units.

There is a satelite assessment centre in Salisbury, I think it is called the Creative Nail Academy and is run by Jacqui Jefford. I know their number is in the yellow pages.

Hi Sarah
I am very happy to tell you that you are completely wrong

That's the good bit. However it gets complicated after that!

There is a completely new NVQ, it is NVQ Levels 2 & 3 in Nail Services. This can be taken in its entirety at an FE college (those that offer it, that is and it may be a while before many do as there is a shortage in nail specialist lecturers). Individual units can also be taken. Many FE colleges offer evening courses for, example manicure and pedicure.

If it is done via short private or industry courses then every training provider will have a different structure and cost. If it is done via as assessment centre, such as the SAC's (Salisbury is one) then training does not need to be involved for an experienced tech, just the assessments.

Hi Marian

Thanks for that as I was hoping there was an easier way to do it, just wasn't sure. It has just been very confusing with so much info floating around, and as usual I got the wrong end of the stick!!!

I've been following the various NVQ related threads with interest (and confusion!) - and think i geddit?!? Just wondering how I find out where my nearest centre / assessor is?

I'm in Lincoln BTW!
