Ombre and Balayage help!!

Hey geeks,
Just been watching some tutorial videos on youtube of ombre/balayage highlights...

Just wondering if anybody uses either of these techniques and what you all think?

Also do you use foils or just paint it onto the hair?

I was confused about what to do in a situation if say the client was blonde all over but naturally a level 6/7 and how I'd go about that...

Any tips, techniques welcome as I've never tried this before and really interested in it

Ombre is a really popular highlighting technique right now, and is really easy to do. When i do it in the salon, i start at the base of the neck, back comb my section and apply my color in a foil typically on only zones 2 and 3 it defeats the purpose of the technique if you get it too close to the scalp, it's supposed to look grown out and kind of grungy. The back combing helps keep the line soft.

As far as balayage, i never use foils when i do this technique, and i only really use it if i'm trying to make natural looking highlights. I hope this helps. have fun playing with those techniques, they can be really useful.

Thanks that's brill. I saw the backcombing technique on a website and it seemed to have a really nice effect! I can't wait to do it! Also with balayage.. if you're using bleach do you you prefer to mixture to be a lot thicker? I've seen a few people saying they do. Thanks a lot Hun x

It's best thicker yes and also a creme bleach rather than powder is good for it

How much do you all charge for ombre hi lights?

I usually charge about the same as a partial foil. I also use a higher developer than I normally would if I am using foils since the bleach dries out faster.
