Hi Geeks, I just wondered if all you knowledgeable geekies out there could possibly help me with a huuuuge (to me!) problem. Basically, I have just started to offer soak off gels on my service list (mainly offer hard gel) as I hadn't found a soak off gel that I was happy with until now. I discovered Young Nails ManiQ soak off gel and spoke to the trainer there who also advised me that I could mix with polish to create custom blended colours. It was fantastic and I have now done 2 sets which were very well received - 1 set on my daughter and 1 set on my husbands' boss (female lol). The gel was brilliant, lasted well, didn't chip etc etc and I was sooo pleased to have finally found a soak off I could stay with. HOWEVER, I tried to soak off my daughters' set tonight and it was an absolute disaster!!. I desperately need to know what I may/or may not have done incorrectly. Firstly, I gently filed the nails with a medium grit file to break the seal, then on one hand (I was doing an experiment to see which method worked best and fastest) she placed the nails in a soak off manicure bowl which you put warm water underneath so that the acetone is warmed up, she immersed her fingers in the warm "Profile Soak Off Gel Remover" then I covered up with a towel. I left them like this and didn't touch for 15mins (which YN say is all that's required to soak off) but when she took them out, all that had happened was a bit of lifting/crackling around the edges. I tried to scrape the gel off gently with an orange stick but flakes of nail came off with the gel which alarmed me so I just put them straight back in the remover liquid. Meanwhile on the other hand, I had put the "Profile Soak Off Remover" on cotton balls, placed on top of the nails and wrapped the nails in foil. This was rubbish as the cotton ball moved about if she dared to move a fraction and the foil wasn't tight and even fell off! We also tried 1 nail in a "easy soaker little dipper" which is like a tight rubber pot around your finger that you fill with the soak off liquid and then immerse the nail. This method did not work either!. I am panicking to death about this because my Husbands' boss is coming to have her gels soaked off this week and I need to find out what is the best (quickest/easiest) way to soak them off. She is extremely fussy about any potential damage to her nails and doesn't like filing whatsoever so won't let me near her with a file!. In the end, it took 50mins for my daughters' gels to crackle a bit but then I had to buff the rest off, which didn't make her nails look too great afterwards.
Should the gel come off in one whole piece?
Should I buy an "easy soak nail bath" double bowl thing with the warm water underneath and the lid that covers the hands???????
Should I be using special foil to wrap the cotton wool balls in instead of regular everyday foil?
How do you make the foil/cotton balls stay in place and stay on the fingers??

Please, please please help as I am a nervous wreck about my hubbys boss coming and need to crack it before she comes (gulp!)..............

thankyou peeps
Big stressed out hugs to you all.

sorry cant advise as dont use gels, might sound obvious but why dont you get advice from the original youngs trainer who recommended the mani q to you?
really hope you can find a solution soon x

Perhaps you may need to do a bit more filing first to break the seal and you were perhaps a bit too gentle and did not remove enough? That would be my guess.

I'm sure the remover should do the trick no matter what method you use to soak off, once it can actually penetrate the coloured gel.

Why dont you try magi foil wraps sold by CND. They do gel nes and acrylic ones. This are little bits of foil with a pad that is attached to soak up the acetone. I use these to soak off everything and they are the best thing I have ever used.

If I was soaking off a gel I would buff off the top layer as sometimes when you use a topcoat gel this is buff off and once this is buffed off then the rest just soaks off.

Having the same problem, already started a thread on this subject, all I've come up with is that I didn't buff the nail enough for the acetone to penetrate the gel, will keep you posted with future results:irked:

Oh they sound brilliant, however I haven't got around to registering with CND yet as I've been so happy with my own brands I didin't think there would be any need to buy anything from CND. This means that I can't get hold of these fab things (yet!) so do you know of anything similar in a different brand??.
Geeg, thanks and I'm putting a couple of the boss's colour gel on my daughters' nails tonight and will try and soak off again tomorrow and will defo file alot more off this time and see what happens.........
Oh, and the Young Nails Office has shut down for Xmas until tomorrow but I will phone tomorrow and ask their advice........
Howdoes everyone keep the cotton ball on with the foil? Shall I try hairdressing foil??
Any other ideas geeks?? Anyone tried that "Easy soak Nail Bath" thing??
I can literally feel the clock ticking until hubbys' boss comes back (gulp)
Any ideas/advice greatly appreciated xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Hazel, so maybe I'm not the only one then?.......
What soak off gel are you using? Is it the ManiQ??
What is your method of soak off? (foil/cotton ball?, Warm acetone???)
If you use foil how do you get it to stay on???
How long is it taking to soak off now that you buff more??
Thankyou for your help xxxxxxxxx

Hi, I'm using maniq ( I also use calgel no problem saoking off), I've used magi wraps and easy soak bowl both took ageeeeeees. Next time I'm going to buff more to see if this helps:hug:

I have used the mani q in the past with no problems so I agree that you probably haven't broken the seal on the topcoat enough. :green:

Hi, I use Jessica gel polish & i use "Erase soak off" also from Jessica, First I gently file the nail, soak a cotton pad in erase place it over the nail then wrap foil over, leave for 15 mins, once removed I gently use a curved metal cuticle pusher to lift the gel. My Jessica rep did say you could use heated mitts to speed up the process.
hope this helps.
This is my first reply only joined tonight.
Good luck

Hi there, I've used Mani-q custom mix soak off gel for a while and more recently the Young Nails Mani-Q colour soak off gels and removal is simple.
I have bowls that have a section underneath that I fill with hot water, then clip the top section on top and fill will acetone.

I then buff the tops of the nails and remove shine and place into acetone.

I leave for 10mins whilst preparing the next colour of mani-q.

After 10 mins continuous soaking it has started to 'lift' off but does require a scraping from a metal pusher. If its a highly pigmented colour it does require a slight light buffing to remove the residue.'

HTH xx:hug:

I bought mine from here:
Magis, Foil Nail Wraps, Foil Nail Toes
Just called the lady (Avril) on the mobile number and she took the order. Nail Harmony are also selling them now. HTHs. :)

Hi hun, I don't use gel but I do use cotton wool and foil:lol:
So going with the advise above, file a bit more to break the seal?
Then, Half a cotton wool ball soaked in your remover and make a package of your foil. Your foil needs to come down to the first bend in the finger on front and back and it needs to be wide enough to completly fold over it self from the sides. I place the finger on the foil, put the soaked cotton wool on the nail, making sure it comes a little bit over the top of the free edge, then I fold the foil over the nail and using an orange stick to hold the sides nice and close wrap the left side over the nail area followed by the right side. Then I sit the hands on top of a heat pad and put a towel over the hands.
For shellac I only need 10 mins but for L&P I need about 30 mins.
That should do you for tomorrow but after that I'd get the cnd wraps, they are a lot easier to use and look a lot more professional:lol:

Waffle if my memory serves me correctly there was a post only the other evening were you was asking about mixing ordinary polish with mani-q?? Abd was praising regal nails (I think ) .

I do not want to sound argumentive but when you play chemist maybe these are problems you will combat. YN have released pre mixed colours?? Why if you can mix( but that's another post) I think you should ring your supplier and get instuctions and follow to the latter as if you don't beware of maybe one day having a client taking you to court and I'm sure your insurance would be invalid as you are mixing products. Xxx

I bought Mani-Q so that I could use any colour varnish, I also use Shellac religiously on myself and I have to say I much prefer Shellac. I used Magis and had the same problem with soaking off the Mani-Q. Had to buff them off in the end as it took longer than 15 mins soaking off. Maybe I also hadn't broken the seal sufficiently? But unfortunatley it did put me off using again especially in light of the soak off times with Shellac (and yes I know it isn't a comparable product). Now I have read that other people have had the same problems and the general consensus is that maybe we haven't buffed off enough of the top coat I will give it another try.

:hug:1st reply to lil old me! thank youxxx
How do you get the cotton ball to stay on the nail with the foil though? Do you use special foil coz I was just using normal household foil and it wasn't tight enough around the finger which meant the cotton ball wasn't squashed against the finger enough............

I've jus blimmin ordered a big jar of ManiQ as I was sooo impressed with the staying power but it's no good if you need a flippin blowtorch to get it off lol
How long does Shellac take to remove?? and how do you soak that off??
Also, does Shellac only last 2 weeks?? that's not long enough for my clients as they defo want 3 weeks at least..........
Thankyou for your help xxxx

Hiya, where did you get the "Magi wraps" from??? I can't find anywhere selling them on the net and I'm not yet registered wth CND ...........

As I said waffle why not ring your educator or supplier ? Use their instructions and then see if you have problems.

Do you use recommended products ? Ie household foil? If not I would think this maybe were your problem lies xx
