Hi , can anybody help me as to why I'm having clients with opi gel chipping after a week? I qualified about 18months ago and have done a fair amount of gel clients but am still having some chip within a week, the most recent client (pictured) has not even had hers a week ago and went me this to show her nails chipped. She does have very soft nails and has had gel/shellac ( done by another therapist ) continually without a break for about a year now. please help!

What's the steps you go through? Also, that top picture looks like she's peeled that off to me?

I do cuticle work with swiss guard, buff nail plate , nass 99, then bond aid, then base coat , 2 or 3 layers of colour then top coat , each cured with opi gel lamp for 45 secs.

Your prep and steps are spot on. It sounds like her nails are maybe not in great condition, which will affect the longevity of the gel polish. She could be hard on her nails, could have not followed aftercare, could have picked at the gel. I don't think it's anything you've done. You will always gets some people where the gel polish doesn't last for various reasons that aren't your fault. If the vast majority of your clients are keeping their gel fine, try not to get too disheartened. In the top picture, there does seem to be some nail damage on the nail plate where it looks like she has peeled the gel away.

Thank you , I think you're right and I think she's not being entirely honest with me as to how well she's treating them ( I know she's a terrible nail biter ) i've only had one other who's chipped so quickly and that was because her own nails peeled, the rest last 10 days to 2 weeks.

I think some people think that gel is indestructible and lasts weeks without having to look after them at all [emoji31]. As long as your prep work, products and routine is correct (which it sounds like it is) then there's really nothing else you can do. Just offer to redo the chipped nails, but charge her.

I sae her this morning and the gel has lifted from the top of her nail, no chips at all on the tips and I can definitely see she'd peeled it away. I just removed it and said it would be a good idea to have a break from gel for a while. thanks for your help :)

Hi! Im using geleration colors and base but when I was removing the tacky layer for a desing the color come off with the alcohol. Im using the CND led lamp. Dont know if it is the color because it is a bit old or something else. Please help.

It looks a little thick near the cuticle. This could cause the lifting and then she's feeling the need to pick. Just a thought x

she has a couple of big ridges on both thumbs, would that make polish displacement uneven enough to lift ?? x
