Ok so my roots were too orange and my ends too white so hairdresser used Wella 12/1 on roots interspersed with some 10/1 or 10/0 streaks that she put right through to the ends. Seemed like a good idea and afterwards it looked MUCH better. But after another two weeks the roots look orange and the ends white again. Guess 10 hasn't held on the ends but shouldn't 12/1 have killed the orange tones on the roots? It looked fine just after she did it, but am now nervous of having 12/1 on roots next time around in case they gradually go orange again.
Where did we go wrong??
Thanks :)

Don't be so quick to blame the colour, if you have alot off warmth in your hair naturally you should be using a colour protection shampoo or a violet shampoo and regular treatments aswell so the color will hold in your hair.

Try wella 12/89 on the roots instead, the comb through 5/10 before the end of processing time just for the first time. Ok find its much better at getting rid of unwanted Orange/yellow tones.

Yes, it sounds like your hair naturally has too much warmth in it anyway.
Sometimes no matter how much ash/violet we use, it still is never enough to kill the orange/warm tones in the hair.

If the ends don't hold the color and fade very quickly, this usually indicates that the ends are too over processed and porous. If this is the case, you may need to have a pre-pigmentation in the ends of your hair. Unfortunately this will involve using warm/gold tones.
(Obviously not want you want to hear. :irked:)

In your case, I think you should just accept that you may not be able to kill the warmth using tint alone. You could have regular semi-permanent colors in the ends to give it some depth. This would also avoid further damage.
I would also recommend several moisture/protein treatments.

Also as mentioned above you can also have regular toners and using a silver shampoo can eventually tone down unwanted warm tones.

Remember that tinted hair on the ends will always end up fading very quickly, especially if using very light blonde and high lift shades.

:)

Many thanks for your advice :)
I do use the Wella colour protection range of products between colours, and the deep conditioning treatment. The ends are dry so I'm sure you're right about it not holding colour well.
Re the warmth the odd thing is that I switched from 12/0 because that took my hair very white and I preferred a little yellowy warmth. All the girls at the hairdresser said they get a better shade with 12/1 than 12/0 but oddly it's more orange with the 12/1.
I like a light blonde, past the horrible orange stage but still with a bit of natural looking tone. The best combination so far was 12/0 mixed with 12/3, which weirdly didn't go orange. It wasn't brilliant but maybe I should go back to that.
I have a full head colour and hair that tends to be dry so would be nervous of switching to bleach.
