Hi everyone, have been researching gel polishes for awhile and have decided I'd like to invest in a few polishes and what not to have ago myself at home.

I'd just like to point out I've never had any professional training and am nowhere near an expert so apologies in advance if this doesn't make sence! :) I've pretty much decided on Orly gels as I've read lots of fab reviews, love the colour range and price wise they're not too bad... All except the lamp, it doesn't seem all too available online unless it's with a ridiculous price tag like £170 plus pounds. I understand it's a proffesional piece of equipment but is there another alternative lamp? Are you mainly paying for the Orly brand name do you think? I believe Orly gel polishes need an LED lamp rather than a UV lamp... Can I just buy a cheaper LED lamp that will do exactly the same job. The Orly lamp is a 13w I think it's advertised as, so is a 13w cheaper/not Orly branded LED lamp the same?

Ah sorry for all the questions, any replies/help I would appreciate!

Thanks in advance lovely geeks xx

The only advice I will give you is to get some professional training. You are obviously passionate so why not make sure you are working safely and that you're using the right equipment? I know gel polishes look easy but there are risks of permanent allergic reactions if you don't know how to avoid them......

If you have training you can get insurance and charge for your work as well!

Thank you for that, the thought has crossed my mind many a time. I guess it's just finding the time to go for it

I'd recommend training as well. When you take a nail course there are a lot of things you learn about the nail, problems, diseases and most importantly, the system that you are using. Every system is different and proper training is the best route to go. I know it can be expensive to start, but it can bring in a good income once you establish yourself!

Good luck!
