Hi ladies. I had a lady come to see me last week who is a nail biter. She used to have acrylics and doesn't want to go down that road again but desperately wants to stop biting her nails so she asked if I would put shellac on her nails in an attempt to stop her biting and her nails to grow. She has said that it has helped her loads in stopping her biting. But she also has massively over grown cuticles - is there anyone who can advise on how to treat this? I advised the use of creams and solar oil regularly but I can't see how much can work?? I have attached a picture so you can see how bad her nails are...thank you for any help!

Use Cuticle Away and let sit a few minutes and use a cuticle pusher and curette all over the nail plate. Have her come regularly for cuticle work. I'd personally do it for free the first time. This is completely normal for a biter. Have her use Cuticle Eraser at home and Solar Oil.

I used cuticle away and let it soak but they didn't want to go back much at all, very stubborn. How does the cuticle eraser work? Thank you.

CND Cuticle Eraser is for at home use. It has alpha-hydroxy acids to help prevent cuticle build up and also nourishes the nail.
What are you using for tools?

As well as the home care which has already been mentioned, regular manicures will help. The reason her eponychium (not cuticle) is so over grown is because she is a biter, and probably has been for many years. Correcting years of abuse won't happen overnight but it can be achieved.

Is this because she bites at the eponychium ?

Apparently it's the stimulation of the finger tips constantly being nibbled in the mouth. A bit like a massage creates erythema by stimulating the blood flow and thus bringing more oxygen and nutrients and promoting growth in both the surrounding skin and the nail. Which is why, ironically, a nail biters nails will actually grow faster. If that makes sense lol

Yes sorry it is the eponychium. I will recommend the use of cuticle eraser for her and let her know that it will take some time to fix. I just used a cuticle pusher once I had left the cuticle away on for a bit.

A curette would help you greatly.

Hi again. I don't believe she bites at the eponychium but it's just very overgrown from biting. Will cuticle eraser help with this or will it never improve? Also, if you use cuticle eraser followed by solar oil, do you leave the cuticle eraser on the nails ie just rub it in and then put the oil on? Thx
